Approaching the End

and will continue to be their strongest selling point, and rightfully so since it rules.
I feel the same way. 🙂
On another note, I don't think it's possible to predict who will lead in the console race this generation.
Let's admit it, Sony shot themselves in the foot. $600 just for the freakin console? And don't give me the BS about "oh, well, get the $500 one." Anybody who is willing to spend $500 and up on a video game console is going to know what the the $500 version is missing, and how badly they'll get ripped off. If the theory is right that success for video game companies lies in the sales for casual gamers, believe it: Sony's lost.
Xbox 360: So far, pretty solid, I'd say. They've got a good line-up already, and some great games coming out. (Prey, Gears of War, Halo 3, etc.), however, I feel they still don't have the name recognition they need to persuade casual gamers who, all they had last year was a PS2, and now are deciding what they want for this year. However, the 360 is going to benefit more from Sony's high price than Nintendo, no doubt. Any Sony fan that is turned off by the $600 is going to turn to Microsoft first.
The Wii has come out strong this year. With games like Super Smash Bros. 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and Legend of Zelda, it's obvious that their fanbase is going to be immediately drawn in. With other games like Red Steel, Excite Truck, and Project HAMMER, I think we'll have to wait and see if the control scheme flies. Not to mention the fact that the Wii will have a low price, much lower than PS3 and lower than the 360.
Outside of their fanbase, though, I feel they have a negative reputation, especially of the people who are kind-of into video games and kind-of not. I have quite a few friends like this: they're not much into video games, but with Nintendo's failing Gamecube, they won't want to buy a Wii. This is where PS3's high price comes into play. Gamers like this, ones that won't go near a Wii because they know what the Gamecube did, are going to look at a PS3, obviously say it's too high, and then turn to the 360.
Overall, I think Sony's at the largest disadvantage; it's only lessened slightly because of the fanbase it's developed. Nintendo and Microsoft are currently looking pretty solid, in my opinion.
We'll just have to wait to see where the future takes us.
