Well, I know the XBOX is not profitable.

But at the end of September of 2005, the XBOX sold 20 million consoles. This is from the official manufacter.
Well, it hasnt done great like the PS2, but it hardly is called an flop.

What you think about the games doesnt really matter. It's what people buy. If you think the XBOX has crappy sequels and crappy old games, thats fine by me, I somewhat agree with you. But does that reflect on why it flopped. No.

Just checking Game Ranking.com to see whats the top 10 games were of all 3 consoles and how many were not sequels.
XBOX has 4 with Halo, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia (pretty much completly different than the original), and KOTAR
PS2 has 1 with God Of War. ( I could also include GTA3, but that can go both ways
GC has 2 with Vietiful Joe and Prince of Persia.
I know that it just 10 games, but these are the best games out there (according to averages of critics)
Overall, maybe others beat the XBOX, but its impossible to find that out.

But to say XBOX has just sequels is wrong. Every console has thier strengths.
PS2 has the biggest amount of games, but alot of them suck, and they're a few big games but less killer apps.
XBOX is the port king,
GC has the most killer apps, but less software support. The're probaby the biggest abusers of sequels and rehashes. How many Mario Karts, mario sport games are theyr?
Zelda's and Metriods are amazing buth they're pretty much the same game since the 80's.

I dont think XBOX flopped completly, it couldnt contend with Sony.

So basically, you didn't prove much with that did you?

"It sold 20 million copies." Yeah, resulting in Microsoft losing out big time because they had to drop their ridiculous prices about ten times due to nobody buying the thing. That, plus all the money they laid out on pathetically expensive advertising and merch, it was a knock to them. So yeah, they sold a shitload after they succumbed to about ten reductions and were selling them for dirt cheap and with four games (like they were doing here).

PS2 didn't have a strength then did it? You make no sense. It had loads of games...ok. "But a lot of them sucked." So what's the point?

Xbox is a failed PC, simple as. It has PC style graphics with nowhere near the quality of visual or more importantly, gameplay. It was the "port king" only because it had more ports. It didn't do any of them particularly well.

Nintendo make a bulk of their own games. Sony and Xbox have franchises and they just keep them going throughout the consoles. Nintendo have that too, sure they do, but they also bring out brand new games. Xbox and Sony have to rely on multi-platform games. The games that Nintendo DON'T create, they take and make better. EG: Resident Evil. It got to a point where Xbox, Dreamcast and PS2 could do nothing more and Nintendo just come along and said "Hang about."

Also, how on Earth you can claim that Prince of Persia was totally different and Metroid Prime wasn't, I'll never know. They were essentially both side scrolling games. Cube took Metroid into first and third person with many new kinds of gameplay and RELEVANT features. Prince of Persia took the easy way out. Make it 3D, steal from some other games and add some gymnastics. When you're plagiarising from Devil May Cry, you're scraping the barrel.

So yes, in closing, the Xbox was a failure when compared to what was promised, and Microsoft- for the superficial sake of having high sales- took price losses to make sure it happened. It didn't matter whether people liked it, they wanted to shift units.

I liked MGS but the first one I found to be too easy. FF I love, but RE and Silent Hill I was never able to get into (they scared the hell out of me, shut up). I've never been big on racing games beyond Mario Kart and Diddy Kong Racing...however I love the Tekken games.

Between the N64 and PSX...the N64 simply had more stuff I liked.

You played mGS EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK 😱

i was reading things up about Blu-ray and HD-DVD. turns out the blu-ray disks actually make video game quality lower then it could be. Plus the 360 did not put the blu-ray on because bill gates mentioned how it's protection scheme is "anti-consumer".

Knowing the games for PS3 will be put onto Blu-ray also increases the video game prices. By the specs they have for the PS3 for now, the games graphics aren't what will be great. It's probably the length of the game.

And for those who think Metal Gear 4 is all intense in graphics...you only saw "cinematics"...not gameplay...cinematics are always intense on graphics, anyone ever played diablo2, or perhaps warcraft 3? only trust games on graphics by gameplay trailers....unless the website or company says "the graphics on the cinematic trailer will be the same as the gameplay quality.." otherwise don't get your hopes up

Did you skip through the dialogue or something?

No, and as I remember it, we spent a lot of time screwing around with stuff like the boxes.

I just remember my best friend at the time coming over with it (we were 13 and 12 at the time) around 7pm and us having beaten it around 1am. I'm not quite sure WHY I remember that, but it wasn't the first time either of us had beaten it either.

You'll like his moves in SSBB, then. 😛

Every year at Anime Central there's someone cosplaying as Snake complete with a cardboard box that says "To Heliport" 😂

Umm...AC all consoles started dropping their original price rate. When MS drop theirs so did Sony (despite the fact they were still selling more than MS)

Oh, well after beating it once it becomes way faster and easier. It's possible to beat the game in like an hour I think, if you skip all the dialogue and just rush through as fast as you can.

I call bullshit on the "I beat MGS in 6 hours and didn't skip dialogue."

There's at least four or five hours of dialogue in it and even on Easy, with an experience MGS-er like myself, it takes more than an hour or two for the actual game.

You must have skipped dialogue to do it in 6 hours. It's impossible otherwise.

But Hideo Kojima always has all of his cutscenes using the game engine plus he even stated that the trailer was working in real time. Sure did you not see his tech demo where he actually paused it and moved the camera around and changed colours?

Not to the massive degree that Microsoft did. This wasn't a steady price drop. It was a massive decrease. Gates even said it himself, though I honestly can't remember where I saw the vid interview now.

Hey, last time I played that was 7 years ago. I may very well HAVE skipped some of the dialog (especially as my copy liked to freeze, as I remember), I just remember spending a lot of time screwing around with stuff that wasn't really relevant yet still finishing it in 6 hours.

However we had a lot of fun with stuff like the C4, we'd plant it on staircases and blow up guards a lot..

with the specs of the PS3, the trailer i saw wasn't the game graphics. PS3 couldn't handle the game smoothly with that kind of speed/memory

This is true, MS did make massive price drops, but that's because the thing was overpriced to begin with.

It's like Sony and MS completely switched sides this generation. Now the 360 has the more casual friendly price tag while the PS3 is going nuts with features that few people actually care about.

I got my Xbox on release with an extra controller and Halo for well over £400. That christmas you could buy it with 3 games for £250-300. It continued.

Nowadays you'll get about £40 for an original Xbox in reputable stores. They're worth f*ck all.

Gates himself said that about the how much they lost out when it came to profit. They made nowhere NEAR as much as they spent.
