Last-Gen Console Discussions (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii)

It's effectively an attack on the mod, not to mention one based on an attitude that I will not accept around here.

This is not up for debate. Simply do not do it again.

These forums really are a joke sometimes.

Don't spam like that either. That kind of thought can be kept to yourself.

Then go. No one will miss that attitude.

Also, I don't see how what games I like has any bearing on whether or not I should be mod.

Don't take it out of context please. I simply stated that I didn't class people with your gaming preferences as "gamers"... It's my POV. Therefor it was natural for me to question your position.

I don't know why this is being brought up now, it happened ages ago in the conversation.

I told you already I will not tolerate further comments about that area. You've been warned. Make no more posts on this again.

people whom play the wii are gamers. they're just most likely casual gamers. There are some hardcore games for the wii like Resident Evil and Madden and people play those on the wii. They can be considered hardcore gamers.

Just like there're casual games on the xbox 360. As well as people whom play those games primarily.

I think what your talking about spoony is the amount of casual gamers playing the wii compared the amount of casual gamers playing the 360 and the wide gap/margin inbetweeen those players and the amount of those that play the more intricate or "hardcore" games with both systems.

This, on top of your pov, is what may influence your thought or opinion on the matter and i suggest you reconsider.

tell me, what's you definition of a hardcore gamer and a casual gamer? Or the difference inbetween the 2? Is it the time put in or the level of gaming experienced, deep involvement in the culture, or what..?

I've not used the terms "casual gamer" and "hardcore gamer" at all... I've said "people who play games casually" and "gamers".

I found faults in most of the systems, and plenty of positives. I'll mention just the faults for now.

PS3: Overheats, LOADING.. screens, Easy-as-hell to break, 4 good games

Xbox360: Overhears, Red-ring

Wii: Not many titles, Easy to lose -.-, requires 'active gaming'

I'm kind of wondering where I ever said that I prefer the Wii over anything else. Because I've barely played mine since I got it. There's just...not a whole lot of games in general that have attracted my interest lately. Once fall hits that will change, because there are several games coming out that I want very badly, but at the moment there's just not much at all.

Summer is always iffy.

The PS3 slim is horribly ugly, for the record.

- After months of rumors and speculation, the company finally made official news of a brand new version of its PlayStation 3 console during a game convention in Germany on Tuesday. Called the "PlayStation Slim," the new system will cost $299 and is due in stores worldwide the first week of September.

- Slim is true to its name, coming in at 33% smaller and 36% lighter. It's also greener, using 34% less power. But while its chassis has shrunk, its trunk space has grown with a new 120 GB hard drive.

http://videogames.yahoo.com/events/plugged-in/sony-slashes-ps3-price-to-299-announces-new-slim-model/1344378

Whoa.. $299 for a ps3 with a 120gb-hd? Damn that's a hell of a deal. I'm in between systems now and i'm getting tired of xbox 360's antics. I'm on the 3rd 360 while my friend's on his first ps3 he got in '06..

The only thing that keeps me loyal to the 360's it's games..But i'll admit, ps3 got better graphics, clearly..And ps home's kinda looking good.

Decisions, decisions.

i may reconsider here (maybe). i have a nice 360 game library i built..And i love the 360 controller. But now the ps3's slimmer, which means it's gonna take up less space and make less noise than the louder 360...

wow. wow. good stuff.

It's official!

now I want a refund on my phat PS3 131

So both the PS3 and 360 (pro) are priced the same, so finally there goes the "ridiculously expensive" argument.

now this is what worries me:

Report: Xbox 360 Failure Rate Reaches 54%
New survey says Microsoft's Red Ring of Death contines to rise.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/101/1014486p1.html

August 17, 2009 - If your Xbox 360 hasn't broken down yet or suffered from the dreaded red ring of death, then consider yourself pretty lucky.

A new survey published in Game Informer's print edition indicates the Xbox 360 failure rate has climbed to a shocking 54.2%. The magazine surveyed nearly 5000 readers, asking them about their experience dealing with broken consoles.

Here are their findings:

Console failure rate

Xbox 360 – 54.2%
Playstation 3 – 10.6%
Wii – 6.8%

Percentage of console owners who suffered a second hardware failure after the original repair.

Xbox 360 – 41.2%
Playstation 3 – 14.7%
Wii – 11%

Percentage of people who rate their customer service experience "very helpful"

Nintendo – 56.1%
Sony – 51.1%
Microsoft – 37.7%

Percentage of respondents whose friends have had console hardware failures.

Xbox 360 – 69.9%
Playstation 3 – 12.4%
Wii – 6%

The magazine also makes a few notes about their results:

The reason the Wii has the lowest hardware failure rate could be because console is played the least of the three. 41.4% of Wii owners surveyed said they play the console less than one hour a day, meanwhile the majority of Xbox 360 (40.3%) and Playstation 3 (37%) owners say they play their console on an average of three to five hours day.

Also, only 3.8% of respondents said they'd never buy another Xbox system because of the failure rates.

How have your experiences been?

Update: Here is Microsoft's response to the report issued to IGN:

Microsoft stands behind the Xbox 360 as a superior entertainment console with one of the best warranties in the industry. We are constantly improving the design, manufacture and performance of the console through extensive testing of potential sources of any problems. Xbox 360 is pleased to maintain the title of "most played console" and the vast majority of Xbox 360 customers have enjoyed a terrific gaming and entertainment experience since their first day, and continue to, day in and day out.

The PS3 being smaller could potentially lead to more "overheating" problems... hopefully SONY did their homework before releasing this, or a new potential "civil class lawsuit" would be coming 😐

😆

I think the PS3 slim looks nice.

I have little love for the PS3(or any other console for that matter), but I always admired its design.

So why do you hate it?

Not giving a damn whether it is your opinion or not- in part because it is such a self-evidently stupid one- do not make comments of that nature again.

That sort of attitude is NOT welcome here.

And jaden, you are blind if you think spoony did not say that about people liking the Wii... as he blatantly did. You are just wasting time by claiming otherwise, so cut that out as well.

I am heartily sick of these attacks on peopkle's gaming preferences based on which console they like. You have no right to tell these people that they are not gamers. Further ones will be considered flames and the posters warned accordingly.

Calling me "blind" and saying i'm a time waster? Are these not personal insults?

I never attacked anyone. I stated what I took from Spoony's post.

I think it's only natural for people to do this. It's the same in other media whether it be music or film or whatever. People have personal taste. Were these forums not made to discuss these things in the 1st place? They'd be a bit irrelevant if noone was allowed to question anyone elses opinion. Granted a few people occasionally do in a non constructive manner but then there are a lot of people on these boards who lack the maturity to debate without flaming.

As far as this forum is concerned, people that play any of the consoles are gamers. If you don't agree, I really don't care.

Fair enough. That's your OPINION. My mum occasionally uses the Wii fit...I wouldn't call her a "gamer" because I wouldn't call Wii fit a game. It's not really any different from a keep fit dvd....You wouldn't call someone who watches and uses them a film buff.

That's simply because she's not a gamer, NOT because she likes the Wii most, which is exactly what spoony said the situation would be, if you could be bothered to have read what he said. As he said it so clearly, and as you said he did not and criticised Lana on those grounds, calling you blind was exceptionally appropriate. The alternative is that you were being willfully disruptive, which would be a matter for a warning.

Read things properly next time. And the forums are certainly not here for that kind of attitude, no.

This argument is done with. If people have any more to say on it, do it by PM.

[B]When it comes down to it, I think you're wrong... My opinion is that games should be judged by what they offer. Playability and storyline, soundtrack, visuals... The same things films should be judged by. In my gaming opinion to sit back and say that Wii Sports is better than Mass Rffect because it's more fun is stupid... And I'm not even a Mass Effect fan.
/B]

I disagree with this. Some of the best games ever made were great because of their simplicity...Case in point?...Tetris.

Did it have a storyline?...No...Did it have a great soundtrack?...FVCK NO...Did it have great visuals?...NO WAY...

Was it a brilliant game?...Yes.

I'm guessing you like to play most games by yourself?

Well here's a fact for you...Some people like to play them with friends. These people will get far more out of the Wii sports resort than they will out of Mass effect and the like.

Your opinion on films seems a bit skewed as well. Are you implying that a film that is visually more amazing than another is a better film? On that basis then Transformers would be a better film that Schindler's list...Is it?...No.

👆 Me too. it's is quite stylish, and the black mate look will make it look cleaner for a longer time, unlike the glossy black-fingerprint-magnet of the PS3

I always like the phat PS3 design, though. It's problem it's that is just too big.

Don't like the mate look. It makes it look like a door stop. Like i can erase with it, lol. The sleek shiney finish is way better and more futuristic looking. But the slim concept is better.

Wonder if it'll deliver just as efficiently as a regular-sized ps3, performance-wise.

Erm, ok, you can't really use that because Tetris was around when games were different. Tetris was new and exciting.... And it had a very good soundtrack for it's day.

I play games with friends... More than I do alone. And I've stated that Wii Sports was fun, I just don't think it's a great game. A games multiplayer options of course effect how I rate a game, I just like a game to be good for both single and multiplayer. The main reason why I lost faith in the Halo series.

I never really said that visuals were important to me. I just said it was a way that games can be judged... Saying that, I know that in the past a gaming experience has been effected by graphics. As I'm sure it has for you. (Mirrors Edge, XIII [both possitivly)... and to some extent FFVII [even though I loved the game])
