You know that pretty much everyone here who has a Wii also owns at least one of the other systems, right?

Also the idea that "if you like the Wii you're not a gamer" is just downright stupid. Yeah, most of the games I play I go more for story and stuff, but sometimes? I just want something I can play for 10 minutes and then go do something else. Hard to do with a lot of games on the other systems.

And I wouldn't call that post you were replying to an objective opinion.

There is no such things as an objective opinion.

Of course it comes down to personal choice, you don't see critics just talking about fact.

If you look at the Wii, it really provides very little. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's worth the purchase for Galaxy alone... But to put it on par with the 360 or PS3 is stupid, it just pumps out casual gaming crap... Look at the Wii rack next time you're in a game store, look at it as a gamer... It's beyond painful.

Yeah, I spend many, many hours a week looking at a selection of Wii games, and 360 games, and PS3 games, and so on.

Frankly, there's about as much on the Wii that interests me as there is on the 360, or any other system.

Gamer does not mean "they play the games I approve of", btw.

And anyway, who cares if there's a lot of casual games on it? Oh no, people who are casual gamers or generally do not play games are getting into them. So what. Gaming is extremely mainstream these days. Not everyone's going to jump into the deep end.

If the Wii interests you more than the 360 you shouldn't be the forum leader.

Just because more people are playing games, doesn't mean they are gamers... My sister plays games, she is not a gamer.

Seriously, gaming isn't a nerd niche hobby anymore. The same group of "jocks" that beat up nerds on the playground go home and play video games.

...what the ****?

First, she said "as much as." That would be equal.

Second, the Wii is a game system. The same as the 360 and the PS3, and any other system.

Third, how would that make a difference anyway?

It is still a niche hobby, not many would class gaming as there hobby, even people who own consoles. I go to the cinema every now and again... Is it a hobby of mine? No...

All I'm saying is that if someone still finds the gimmicky Wii more interesting or even as interesting as it's rivals knows as much about gaming as my mother, therefor has little right to run a gaming forum. This is my opinion on the matter.

The last console I owned was PS1 and I class gaming as my hobby.

Do you own a theatre? I doubt it.

Gaming is a hobby. People who play games are participating in that hobby. Saying someone does not play games as a hobby because they play less games than you is ridiculous.

Well I apologize for the fact that there's little on the 360 that appeals to what I like. My DS gets the most play these days because it's the only system where there's a decent number of turn-based JRPGs. I don't have any interest in shooters or sports, or RPGs like Mass Effect or Fallout.

Meanwhile, I still enjoy Zelda, Mario, and some of the casual games - like Wii Sports Resort - are a lot of fun.

Not that I really should have to justify any of my taste in games to anyone, of course.

And I'd disagree there. If someone plays games, and enjoys it, and they think they are a gamer...then they are. There aren't any standards or anything that one must live up to to be considered a gamer.

Wrong. The majority of households these days own some sort of gaming system. The gaming industry currently - and has for some time now - makes more money than the movie industry.

Video games are mainstream. They have been for a couple of years now, and only have become more and more. Being a gamer is not special.

Exatcly, it's not just about owning the systems and playing them occasionally... It's about taking an active interest in it.

When it comes down to it, I think you're wrong... My opinion is that games should be judged by what they offer. Playability and storyline, soundtrack, visuals... The same things films should be judged by. In my gaming opinion to sit back and say that Wii Sports is better than Mass Rffect because it's more fun is stupid... And I'm not even a Mass Effect fan.

And there is a difference between people who play games casually and who play them actively as a hobby. Just like there is a difference between a casual film goer and someone who actively watches films as a hobby.

Gaming has been mainstream since the PS1.

And I would say that trying to compare two completely different games, that are made for different audiences, and have absolutely nothing in common, is stupid.

Gaming is first and foremost about having fun. So why shouldn't how fun someone finds a game be the most important thing in judging what they find better?

And no, there really isn't. It's all about what they have fun doing.

They games have things in common... All games do. I can say without any problem that Mass Effect is a better game than Wii Sports.

Gaming is about fun... of course... but what gives that fun that is the most important.

Look, my flatmate plays games with me but he doesn't give a damn about games. He has fun when we play but it's not his hobby.

Wii Sports is gaming as a toy.

Mass Effect is gaming as art.

Comparing the two is pointless, they set out to do different things. Would be like comparing Dumb and Dumber to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Movies have things in common, too. But is comparing, say, The Little Mermaid to The Lord of the Rings a reasonable comparison? Of course not.

What is most important is that at the end of the day, you enjoyed playing the game. How that was delivered factors in to how much you enjoyed it, but most people don't go "I enjoyed this game because the engine supports this many polys, and the sound design was excellent."

The only thing they have in common is that they're played on a game console. And considering Mass Effect was one of the most boring games I attempted to play in a long time, I certainly would not say it's better than, well...anything. I certainly have significantly more fun playing the tennis on Wii Sports with my friends than I did attempting to slog through ME. And it's still a bad comparison. It's like apples and oranges.

Yes, what gives it that fun is important, but once again - that is entirely subjective. Just because you don't find something fun does not make it factually terrible.

That's great - but does not really change anything. He doesn't care about games. There are a lot of people who do, though, but still play pretty casually.

1: Any stats to back up your 1st statement?

2: Did I even say anything about people liking the Wii "not being gamers"? Or are you just using a strawman tactic?

3: It's far more objective than most of the utter drivel that gets spouted in this forum by gibbering fan boys who can't see the flaws in their choice of console.

Of course it's stupid to comapre them... They're not even in the same genre. However, you still can compare them on a general scale... Just as you can comapre Dumb and Dumber and One Flew Over he Cuckoo's Nest on a general scale. I'd happily say the latter was the better movie.

Then why are you trying to compare the Wii and it's rivals? I'm comparing them because I believe you can.... Mass Effect and Wii Sports were just examples of standard sort of software for the systems. I wasn't making judgments as them as games.

Who needs stats? Just pay attention to what people post.

I was referring to what Spoony had said in the post you replied to.

And no, not even close. It was just as much fanboy drivel, however it was swinging from the other direction. Irrational dislike is just as bad as blind love for something.

I'm not, though. That's more what you were doing. I've stated time and time again that the Wii is aimed for completely different audiences to the other systems.
