they're better off without it, until the next console
Considering you can get a bluray player for about $200 now, I bet they could pull it off.
And of course there's a point. People would buy it. More people own 360s than PS3s, after all.
Also, I'm not much of a fan of the all-digital thing either.
One thing I like about the digital distribution is how cheap games can be and how easy they are too find.
For example, Steam has released numerous games over the years and a lot of them are really cheap. I picked up Hitman, Hitman 2 and Hitman Bloody Money for 10 bucks. I bought the entire Dawn of War games (including 2 and minus Soulstorm for 40 bucks.
If they had the combination of digital plus hardcopy, it's a perfect system.
Sooner or later though, hard copies of games will be going away.

In that case it's makes a better sell pitch for SONY, much cheaper and all in one.... for potential buyers I mean.
if they sell the add-on for say, 150$, you'd be better off buying and standalone player if you already have a 360...
I'm really not all that much of fan of digital distribution, too many limitations, you can't sell it or trade it, or even borrow it to someone... on the other hand it's much cheaper in most cases

Wouldn't leaving it on for extended sessions make it overheat and therefor possibly cause a ROD?I could've sworn that was 1 of the reasons the hardware went to hell.
now...on the PS3...*sigh* Wonder what to do with the brick I have for a console now.
leaving it on for an excessive amount of time, in a poorly vent space/room does make it overheat... and you risk a RRoD
about the PS3: Last time I checked, it was possible to repair the PS3. There are places online you can check an have it repaired, if you don't want to call Sony... it also depends on what console version it is (60 Gb are the ones that got plagued by it the most)

One of my friends has gone through over 10 PSPs because they're just so ridiculously fragile.
What did your friend do? Did he/she throw all those PSPs out of the window?
My brother has had his 3rd DS.
I accidentally destroyed the first one when I tripped on the charging cable. It fell from the table then it just died out.
I submerged the second DS intentionally underwater (I do this with a lot of stuff I don't like). I tried turning it on but it won't. Weird, since my PSP did.
