Big-time companies rarely have any love for their customers, so why WOULDN'T Sony use a bigger price tag on the ones that will buy no matter what, and then turn to a more reasonable price to attract everyone else?
To be honest I have no idea why SONY would even bother to add so much new technology. The real question is why would SONY start off at $600 knowing very vell that by speculation if you remember people were already saying it would cost $1000 and wouldnt consider buying it.
