Either they're revising their strategy (massive negative press....) or they're making bundle packages for the PS3.
Sony isn't like Nintendo. They're large, multicorporational firm with tons of capital in several countries. It wouldn't take them long to make their quota. Especially with captial technology the way it is now.

Just like Microsoft who somehow didnt make their quota even tho they started 5 or 6 months before launch. Remember SONY is doing a world wide launch, even if they decide to do a bundle they still wouldnt build enough PS3s to go around.

See, that's so dumb. Most stores won't sell M-rated games to kids under 18 anyway. My brother's nearly 18 and I usually end up buying his games for him (as in, he'll give me the money and I'll actually go buy them)...my mom doesn't care if he plays stuff like GTA, he's nearly an adult, but Gamestop and EB won't sell them to him.
Agree is just dumb. It doesn't affect me but I still think is absoultely dumb.

Once again they lied. They said production started and now they're saying something else.

And they have worldwide multinational corporations covering the launch.
It's not so simple as so many of you think.
A) They have more than enough capital to meet the quota
B) They have more than enough supplies to meet the quota
C) Anyone who's taken a business course knows that Sony's taking a cautious approach to the launch. They don't want to overproduce or underproduce. From what I have heard and seen, their main concern is keeping the console profitable by not having overabundance of PS3s. And with the price, would be very possible.
It's smart thing to do. They know that they may not sell 20 somethign million consoles before the end of the cycle, so they produce as many as it would take to remain profitable.

Actually, they didn't really lie. People just misunderstood them (they have a horrible public relations organization in Sony...)
They have started the preparations for production. Namely capital, supply, shipping points, accounting, etc.
Making a product is more than simply MAKING the product. There's a hell of a lot more than that.
They haven't started actually making the product itself. But it's not difficult. The preparations are difficult.
They have robots and machines and computer programs that can make a PS3 on assembly line in a very short amount of time.

Key word in my last post was "BUILD". Everyone knows they have the materials to "build" PS3s, the question is do they have enough time to supply the entire world?
As for trying to sell at a profit... overproduce isnt a valid excuse. Why? because SONY said they wanted to have about 5 or 6 million consoles on store shelves by the end of March 2007 (FY07 I think). So why wouldnt they want to overproduce especially since they claim it to be a product that will last for 10 years?

Again. It's not like they're making bread in during WWII...
Robotic technology and advanced computer progams can easily make a PS3 in a very short amount of time. Particularly when they have massive amount of outsourcing firms to do it for them. It's not all made in one company in one country by two people with screwdrivers....

You're not taking in account the business cycles. They stand to make the console profitable for the business cycle of this fiscal year. They're factoring in costs of labour, capital, taxes and how much they are willing to spend RIGHT NOW in order to minimize costs and make profits. They're moving at slow and gracious pace to fully maximize the PS3's profit margin. Going all out and producing a bajillion PS3s is just silly and would make them lose more money than sold.
It's a rather smart thing to do consider the negative climate surrounding the PS3. Another thing they could be doing is "faux pas" low supply of PS3s to heighten demand (the less of an item there is, the more people want it) and maximize the profits of the few that are bought.
You can't just make products and expect them to sell. You have to factor in supply, costs and demand.
As of now there's an arguable low demand of PS3s considering the unanimous bashing of the PS3 for it's hefty price. Their strategy clearly isn't about flooding the market with PS3s because they expect prior low demand.

But the PS3 isnt going to make any profit from sales alone. It cant. They lose atleast over $200 every time they make a sale.
Unless your factoring in licensing rights into the equation, if you are, they wont make any money by not making alot of PS3's.

Alot PS3s cost money. Low Demand + Overabundnant Supplies = Drop in Profits.
The PS3 is being universally bashed. Most people have stated they won't buy one because it's too expensive. Why would the corporation produce an supply of goods that drastically outweigh the demand for the product?
My guess is they ship a low supply of it and market it well enough that the demand for the product soars.

Interesting article. Devil May Cry 4 coming to the 360? We'll have to see.

Maybe. Maybe not. Too many rumors to reasonably keep track and none of them have a totem of credability to stand on. Dead Rising 2 is reportedly coming to PS3 and Wii on another fansite.
I'll ignore these until I hear it from actual, verified sources. Especially since it's too damn early to tell. Two of three systems aren't even out yet and they're saying a game that's not even past draft is set to right on one console...?

It didn't say the games would become 360 exclusives, only that Capcom may be leaning towards making them multiplatform.
From Gameindustrybiz:
EA expects Wii to retail for $170
Matt Martin 17:50 21/08/2006
"Nintendo has come up with a very clever strategy," says David Gardner.Electronic Arts has revealed it expects the Nintendo Wii to retail in the US for around $170.
Speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz, executive VP and COO of EA's worldwide studios David Gardner said, "I've heard in Japan that the price is about $170, but I don't know if the price has been set in Europe yet."
Discussing the key differences between Sony's PS3 and the new Nintendo console, Gardner was positive that the WII will find its niche in the market as a consumers 'second' console.
"Nintendo has come up with a very clever strategy," said Gardner. "They've made a choice which is great for the consumer. Now we're going to have a choice whereby consumers can buy a Wii plus one other console."
If EA is right then Nintendo just drop a nuke on the competition. Well done Nintendo. Now I can't wait to play that Mario game.
170? The Nintendo DS costs what? Like 40 bucks less?
They must be using technology at very low cost to produce a product at price like that.
It probably is a Gamecube with a Wii controller. Very smart...yet very cheap..in both definitions.
However this could backfire if Microsoft and Sony predictably brand the Wii as "last-generation console with a gimmick". Nintendo would need to market the product cleverly to deflect these accusations.
Oh, and I won't believe it until I see it. $250 to 300 sounds alot more plausible to me.
