The Salt Lake temple is one of the most beautiful buildings i've ever seen. I live by one, and it's just so inspireing to see it every day. I'm very fortunate.

Oh and i'm sooo happy. We had a lesson on Joseph Smith becuase the aniversary of his twohundreth birthday is this friday. We got to watch a dvd with parts of the new film going into the Joseph smith memorial building about him. It was so inspireing, i can't wait to see it with my young womens group this febuary. BTW do you live outside utah then kella?

Oh and are you going to watch the broad cast of president hinkley from vermont on friday? ๐Ÿ˜„

200th Birthday anniversary eh? That should be quite a celebration, I wonder what's planned (as long as there is a pinata I would go, it's not a birthday in my opinion without a pinata, there's just something about hitting a paper donkey with a stick till candy falls out that's timeless) to commemorate it. A really big cake I imagine.

oh and please tell me how my church tells it members to be self loathing (humble maybe if self loathing is what you want to call it), something that is not mirrored in the bible.

It teaches its members to be self-loathing in respect to the fact that if you don't fit into one of the prescribed categories, then you are left an outsider and resented by your fellow Mormons. I'm not sure what aspect of the mormon religion you are reffering to that teaches acceptance of others, but it isn't what I've been told by any of the mormons I've met.

I've met tons of Mormons, especially since I came to the west coast, that are totally hateful of the religion they were raised to be a part of. Maybe it's the whole gay thing that turns them off, but I know gay guys who were raised christian and then came out and never encountered too much resistance.

But, a majority of the mormons, former and surrent, are raise with antiquated values.

Yes, I live outside of Utah. Very far away from Utah. I live in New Orleans. Born and raised here.

and I wasn't planning to watch the broadcast as I work all the friggin time. I haven't even been able to go to church cuz of my job either. I miss it. I'll either have my grandmother tape it...or I'll watch the rebroadcasts that they show from time to time.

alright i got a question. you know how the Catholic Faith has an earthly leader, the Pope. Does the Mormon faith have that too?

I mean...other than bashing our scriptures and leaders...talk about something else. Find a reason that we should hate our parents and abuse our children...find a reason that we should drink and smoke and put harmful drugs into our bodies. Tell us how we should not give 10% of our income to a church that will ALWAYS help us out when we are in the most dire need of it. Tell us how we should go out into the world and have random sex with anyone we choose and wind up with STD's and unwanted pregnancies or...as has happened to myself and many of my close female friends...tell us the joys of rape. Tell us why we should allow the world to tear us down until there is no hope left in our hearts? Please...tell me. Convince me of the wonders of the temporal world! Tell me how my Lord will save me when His Holy Spirit cannot dwell in any unclean thing? Tell me how the world will save my soul more so than this "filthy and lying" Mormon religion that has never done harm to you or anyone! TELL ME!

I'm really sorry that the Mormons you've met have such a warped view. i really don't hate anyone becuase they are not mormon, i have non-member friends. I really do feel bad thath they've terated you that way. they will have you answer for that becuase they knew better than to be like that. I hope i can show you a different kind of mormon, or that you will meet one some day. I have been left outside of tight circles of friends in my own ward, and i still believe thath even if the churches members aren't perfect, the gospel is. In confrences the Prophet has directly said we are not to be unkind to anyone, especially non-members. he said he had herd stories of people not allowing thier children to play with non members, and said he was appaled, he did not want us to do any such thing. i hope that you will see in a memeber some day, the example of love twoard others. Or just in another person, everyone deserves love and respect from those around them, no matter what. THe sad thing is you've seen it and it does happen, I just hope you understand that is not apart of us.

As for your friend i'm sorry he has low self estem. But you can't deny that a little dislike of yourself, the bad qualities, are needed so we can make ourselfes better. We are tought that we are loved, and priceless children of God. He is our father, and we need to love others and ourselves. We should not hate ourselves or others, because then we hate also God.

And as for the people you know who hate the gospel, well they are obviously imbittered by a bad esperience. you don't ask someone who hates cheese if it is any good. (haha dumb example). what i'm saying is that i want you to directly quote church leader teeling members to hate anyone, or do something that will not eventually help you as a personl. like kella said above. I want you to really know our churches message before you tell me it is evil, and every member hates themself becasue of it.

Yeah, we have a living prophet. just like the ones in the bible. His name is Gordon B. Hinkley, and there are also twelve apostles, and a first and second counselor to the prophet. There have been sixteen (or close to) modern prophets in our church.

Oh and yeah Imperial_Samura, it's a big deal. We've been celebrating all year with different things. There is even a new movie being made of Josephs life.

Oh, and Kella, the broadcast might be on the church officail site after ward, you can watch it from there. good luck finding it.

and yeah, it is a bummer to miss church. Tell me it there is any way i can give ya a boost.

I'll check the site out.

and yeah, move to New Orleans (though there is NOWHERE to live here) and lend a hand at my job....it'll give me some time off. There are only 2 of us right now...and I got one afternoon off...in the middle of the week, but I spent that afternoon working my other part-time job. Isn't adulthood fun? ๐Ÿ™

*thinks about driving down to new orleans* wait, i can't drive.... dang!

That's cool, New Orleans, whats it like? So, how is your home now, after the huricane and all..... I hope your doing ok. that was a horrible thing.

OH! i'm soo mad!! I have to miss the broadcast this friday because i promised my aunt i was going to go to the nutcracker with her at the ballet. I'm looking forward to it, but i'm bummed out. i'll have to hope its on the church web site too. I love that site. It has a search for topics and it wil bring up talks and stuff. handy thing! it's www.lds.org

Hey, Happy Christmas everyone! Hope it was a special day!

i was wondering something as I was flippin through here...do Mormons celebrate Christmas differently..or is it celebrated like any other christian denomination celebrates it?

Santa rocks my socks...and don't forget the nativity! lmao!

Oh no!! you do Santa/Satan at chirstmas next to the nativity scene?

Not this year...it's been all FEMA trailer-la-la-la this year. And Santa isn't Satan....he's a good guy and he gives me the best presents every year! TOTALLY!

We lost all our christmas decorations in the flood....bummer man. No natvity...no christmas tree...no presents. NO HOUSE! It's been one heck of a year...but my family got together on christmas day so it made me happy, but I had to work most of the day...so that kinda sucked...

uhm...what was the question again? ๐Ÿ˜‘

Yes, we celebrate christmas as any other denomination.
*shakes kella out of work daze*

srry your christmas was a bit of a bummer. the family thing is good though, thats allways good on christmas.

yeah, my year waz a bummer too, my dad has been sick all year, had to retire, and now his cancer is back for the fifth time (has been recurring). *sigh* life can be a bummer. this too shall pass i supose. ๐Ÿ˜„ i'm just glad i know what i do, aren't you?

I go every friday to a mormon church group, I hate it but I'm forced to go and thank god I don't believe any mormon crap cause otherwise Id be just as self-loathing as the guy Capt dated.

Ya know...I'm wondering something. People keep saying that the Mormon church is so dull and boring. I've been to wards in other parts of the country and I would ALWAYS choose the New Orleans wards over any others. We are just different. We have that southern hospitality and we're way more laid back. We accept people no matter their preference.
The church doesn't agree with homosexuality, but I happen to have several gay friends...most of them are drag queens (I LOVE QUEENS!). Some have actually converted to the LDS church after getting to know some of the members of the church...and are trying to change their old habits. Some do better than others...but we don't force anything on them. We don't fault them for anything they choose to do. (I'm speaking for the members I know here in New Orleans, not the leaders or other members of the church.)

I'm sorry that you are stuck in a rut with a boring area of the church...maybe you should come to New Orleans? Definitely...I would recommend (if trying out the LDS church) going to any New Orleans ward (if you're between 18 and 35(?) and single) definitely the Singles Ward. Also Jackson, Mississippi's Singles Ward rocks my socks. Baton Rouge is pretty kick butt too. Gulfport, Waveland, and Biloxi's wards...I dunno about, but some of the people in their Singles wards are really wretched and judgemental...and shallow and cruel. Not my favorite people.

Yeah...uhm...yeah.

Curious! What's the activity called? Is it FHE? Or Institute? Or...something else? We have a movie night on Thrusdays sometimes. Fridays are usually reserved for dances. Do tell....very curious.

that may be how you feel about religion, that it's there to make you miserable (and "selfloathing"๐Ÿ˜‰ but i for one don't know what i'd do without the peace of mind i get from my beliefs. My dad is pretty much terminally ill right now, becuase of his cancer. he is trying to decide between doing radiation and being sick (last time we thought he was going to die from it, and it came back two months later) before the cancer returns again soon after. Or just trying to feel as good as he can while this cancer slowly eats away his health. If i didn't feel the way i do about death, and didn't have the peace i feel from the spirit, i think i'd have a huge, emotional breakdown. but i'm not. I guess thats self loathing for you.

Like i said, you shouldn't base our church on stuck up members ( i've met them beofre), that just has nothing to do with the peice of mind our church gives. I believe the quote i've heard (i might have said this already) the church is true, the memebers aren't.

I don't mean to be harsh at all.

hi im a christian, and my bff is a mormon. U ARE NOT CHRISTIANS. u dont beleive that jesus is a part of God, and dont believe in the trinity. How can u go to heaven if jesus wasnt a perfect sacrifice? only God is perfect, we r all born in sin. So if jesus isnt God, we cant go to heaven and be saved. That says one thing: it is faulse. Jesus is God, or else how can he heal people, walk on water, and even save your soul from being damned? I think you should think about the subject and have a personal time in the lord. Try praying to him and asking him to reveal his real self to you, and not in the way ur religion views him. A relationship with the Lord is personal, and it takes time to grow spiritually. Read The Holy Bible, Look at John 3: 16-20, and read Romans, everything in it. Please think about who he really is and also read a lot of the gospels, like Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Also read James. Have fun, and please write to me if you have any questions. You need to know the lord for who he is.
