Mormons dont even belive in the same Jesus that Christians do.
Hinckley says Mormons Believe in a Different Jesus:
In bearing testimony of Jesus Christ, the Mormon President Hinckley spoke of those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints 'do not believe in the traditional Christ.' 'No, I don't. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak. For the Christ of whom I speak has been revealed in this the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times. He together with His Father, appeared to the boy Joseph Smith in the year 1820, and when Joseph left the grove that day, he knew more of the nature of God than all the learned ministers of the gospel of the ages.'" (LDS Church News Week ending June 20, 1998, p.7 )
So, Mormons cant be Christian since they belive in a totally diffrent Christ.
NOt totaly diferent, the true, restored christ. There where many misconceptions about him. Same person, but see in the true light. You could say that two different people know the same person, but at the same time they don't. Each will know that person differently.
We know the Christ of the new testament more completely, therefore differently.
I love how you take things out of context. ๐ You switched the word for a more conceding one. Hinkley never said totaly different, he said, TRADITIONAL.
Resa<3 did you even read those scriptures next to that topic? i'm sure they can show you that our interpretation is valid also.

Regulus, I love the life you have!๐ you're awsome.

And if you people really want to tell us what we believe and be credible, you should read those. otherwise, you're kinda speaking about stuff you don't really know. (becuase for those of you who don't know, the practises spoken of in the scriptures Reglus posted are all practices of the LDS church) in fact, i have one to add about us being placed in different glories, 1 corinthians 15: 40-42, speaks of three glories. thats what we believe, we go to a different of the three eternal glories depeding on how rightious we are.
But thats why we're here! ๐ฑ so you can learn.
Personally...Yes, I do believe the LDS church is the true church.
I also believe that while many religions do have many truths about them, the LDS church has the greater (meaning amount, not glory) knowledge. That doesn't mean any other religions are stupid...or untrue. It just means, they don't have the fulness yet.
Yes, that may sound conceided, but why should I deny what I believe to pacify any of you? You're grown ups right? Take it with a grain of salt.
Also, since this has come up several times in the past...yes, the LDS church is against homosexuality. God created man and woman to be together and the LDS church obeys that rule. The LDS church isn't lenient to make people feel better. God isn't lenient to make people feel better. He sets rules and expects them to be followed. Being homosexual does not make God love you any less. You're still His child. It should not make your family love you any less or see you as anything other than the wonderful person that you are. But, there is no reason why the church should disobey a commandment of the Lord for you. You are a temporal being and though God and others love you, he made his rules and we must obey them, even if it hurts, even if we must make great sacrifices...it's always worth it in the end...if you are sincere. We view things in the eternal perspective more so than the temporal. And I believe that even if you do have these feelings, you will be judged according to your heart as well as the choices you have made.
so yeah...
and RAB....you TOTALLY rock my socks! OMG! I have to copy that and email it to my friend! *SQUEE*
*SQUEEofagreement*
even though it does not allways work this way, that is to say people aren't very good at doing it, hate the sin not the sinner. that's what we're told.
and yeah, we try to look at things in an eternal sense, not eat drink and be merry (for tommorow we die (lol don't know if that's just a mormon saying (not to be concietited if it's not), so i guess i should say the whole thing)), so to speak.

whats the mission thing you mormons have to do?
Mormons don't have to go on the mission thing you are talking about, but what it is, is young men at the age of 19, who are worthy, are called to preach the gospel full time for two years, they are called away from where they live by God, to where they are needed, but the main reason that Mormons go on a Mission, is because it is like tithing, with tithing, you are suppose to give 10% of what you have back to the Lord, 10% of 20 years of life, which would be age 19, is 2 years, so they give 10% of there life thus far to the Lord
So, the one True church huh?...Guess the others won't be living the blissful life when they die.
that is not true, all though the Mormons do believe that they have a fulness of the gospel, and are the true church, they don't believe that they are the only ones going to heaven, they believe that as long as you live the commandments of God to the best of your ability, and repent of your sins, and are baptized by immersion in the Name of Jesus Christ, if you have made sure you have done everything you most possibly can every day of your life you will make it to heaven,
i know most churchs dont believe that baptism should be by immersion, you should follow christs examples to the fullest, christ was baptized by immersion, so the Mormons believe in baptism by immersion
crazy mormons crazy crazy mormons tisk tisk tisk u guys are really screwed in the head and get a life if u think that jesus was born from intercoarse DUPID! READ THE BIBLE THAT U SAY U BELIEVE IN !!!!!!!!
the Mormons believe in the Virgin birth just like any other religion, what you are meaning, as the Mormons believe and most churches do not, is that we a literal children of our Father in Heaven, and being literal children we have a Mother as well, many people say if we have a mother in heaven howcome she was never mentioned in the Bible, well the Mormon answer to this is simple, God knows that people are going to get angry with him and take his name in vain, so since he loves his wife so much, he made sure to not mention his wifes name, because it would hurt him so much if anybody ever took her name in vain, God is a loving Father and Husband, God is a protective Father and Husband, he wants to protect us from everything, but he wants us to be tested to see if we will love him back, and do as he asks
oh and with Mormons opposing homosexuality, that is true, but what Kella didn't mention is that the church does not discriminate against them, we do have them in the church, they work toward overcoming their lifestyles to be more christlike

Sorry,...I did mean to put that in there. I mean, the church doesn't discriminate...there are members making the choice to change their lives. Thank you RAB.
and *SQUEEEEEEEE* to the Heavenly Mother story! I mentioned that there was a really cool story to that in one of my previous posts. I JUST LOVE THAT! Heavenly Father is so awesome! More people should strive to be like that. To love and respect their spouses and family as God does! OH MAN! HAPPINESS!

sorry guys, the conceding part makes no sense, i got it confused with connotation(don't ask me how, heaven only knows) . what i meant was he was switching the words of our leaders to more connoting words.
If we thought he loved us best all of our buildings (of sunday worship) would not say that visitors are welcome as they do. God loves everybody. He sent his gospel here to bennifit ALL of his living children, HENCE missionary work.
And no, that we have the fullness of the gospel does not leave all believers in the dust in our view. We believe that everyone will eventually have the same opportunity. Loving God is the best thing you can do. Or in some cases, loving good, and others, not just yourself. So, again, it doesn't leave everybody else in the dust becuase we will all have the same opportunity.
The second great commandment (after loving God) is to love our neighbors. Everyone is to be treated kindly.

If these groups below and more exhibited all the fruits of the spirit, why would god do away with them....Answer a god wouldn't. A satan would though.
Buddhist
Tao
Native American
New Age
Paganism
Atheist
A god wouldn't pick and choose.
We acknowledge the truth to be found in these religions. They have fruits of the spirit that God blesses them with, only he wants them to have all of the fruits they deserve as good people. God loves all of the good things these bring. We look at it as stated in our article of faith #13:
We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul--We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. (and this is the part i mean) If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
And god does all he can to help us in our "finite" thinking, to understand the amazing things he has planned for us, but he can only do so much. It's a thing called faith, beliefe in things we do not, and cannot fully understand in our current mortal state. there are examples of god calling for such trust in mormon texts.
*palmhead* I can't believe I didn't think of sharing these before! they are the basic beliefes of our church as summarized by our own Prophet. ๐ฑ Joseph Smith gave these when asked about what we stand for:
1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
3. We believe that through the atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul--We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
Those are put better than I could put them for sure!Hope these help and open up to those interested. ๐
