eek, i just remembered, tohru kinda, sorta, if you look past the weirdness of the actual line, confesses that she really really really really really REALLY likes kyou. and the thought dialog on the last few pages of book 15 between the two of them is the same and they're both doubting that the feelings they're feeling could never be the same with the other and their love could only be unrequited.
sorry. ok, tohru confesses to kyou (in front of the whole school) in a really weird way.
later kyou is thinking about what she said and debating on whether it means what he thinks it does.
then, even later, theyre both thinking about how, despite the fact that they love the other, the other doesnt love them back.

Who started the bit about Akito being a girl? He is still most definitely a man all the way up to book 11 of the Fruits Basket manga!! Now, explain that please? The only place I could see where you might get a mistake like that is when Haru is speaking to Yuki about getting dumped by some girl. They say something about Akito...but that isn't who Haru was going out with...
Alrighty...I feel slightly better after that. And I guess as it stands now that Kyo and Yuki both have a fair chance at getting Tohru. They both admit to themselves anyway that they love her. Heh...

As far as I know in the manga it shows that Akito is a girl.And Yuki loves her as a mother figure,while Kyo loves her as in the "other" type of love.And Yuki is with a different person(I think it's Machi,but I may be mistaken.)
I 110% agree with sai12. That's just wrong. I always thought Akito was a dude. I mean, I've seen all the anime episodes 'cuz I bought the boxset(70 bucks on sale!), and all appearances that Akito made in the series showed that he was a guy. But, when he first met Tohru, I thought he was sorta flirting with her, but when Yuki came along, I always thought he was sorta gay. But, eh, who knows? But it seems a little far-fetched to call Akito a woman, though.

Okay, did you not read what I said? I wasn't even talking about the anime becuase...we all know Akito was a guy in that.
First off, how many volumes does Fruits Basket have? And secondly...go read the manga! It says "Him" and "he" when referring to Akito all the way through up till book 11. So unless he does a gender change after volume 11, I think he is most definitely a man.
And I wouldnt' go so far as to call Ayame gay...the zodiac members have a hard time being...

Anyways,that's because no one knows he's female yet.In the later books they actually show him.Also, go to www [dot] absoluteanime [dot] com/fruits_basket/akito [dot] htm (replace the [dot] bit with . and remove the spaces) and hover over the little speech thing where it says 'male' and it'll say 'reveals to be female in the manga'.
there are more than 15 books and according to an article from the english editors, akito's mother tried to raise him as a man. yeah, akito get to die!! i always hated him. we arent spreading false rumors. and yeah, at the beginning of book fifteen, yuki admits that he sees tohru as a mother and he notices that kyou doesnt think of her as just a girl and that pisses him off (yuki of course).
