After 4:00pm No more teens inside Malls without a Parent.

I was watching ABC news (or some other network I don't remenber they're all the same) and there was this report from the Mall of America in Minneapolis that says that kids under 16 yrs must be accompany by his/her parents in order to shop inside the stores. Which I thought it was little to harsh. They claim that because of the holiday rush they have been encountering troubles with certain misbehave teens.

If a teen is not with his/her parent a security officer will escort the teen outside. And not allow inside again without a parent. Here is my problem...teens are the reason why malls make money. They buy more...they frequently visit them more than adults...and cause less traffic congestion. So why restrict them?

Because of this issue it most likely be changes in other malls across the country. So, is this a good or bad thing. Or age discrimination?

How much money can a child under 16 really have with them, and spend? Teens who are 17, 18 and 19 are more likely to spend more money as some of them may work and will get more pocket money.

Besides, 15 year olds can be mischivous. They are allowed in, as i understand just with a parent.
I guess thats fair enough.

Younger teens would just randomly hang around stores - older people have intention of spending some real money.

this also prevents kids from separating from their parents while shopping,
which also cuts profit.

but no matter...when the first few kids are assulted or kidnapped after being forced outside, and their parents end up owning the mall after the lawsuit, this will be a thing of the past.

Quite a lot money. Mostly in the Arcade, Food Court, Sports, Hobbie Stores, Pizza parlor...etc...beside kids rather hang around with their friends than with their parents.

I agree with Lil B on this one. They lead all demographics in loitering by a big margin, too.

Look, the last time I shoplifted from a mall, all I did was drive the showcase Hummer H3 out the building, that's all. It's those damn kids that are swiping all the Mr. Goodbars and Snickers.

Paul thats ridiculous. If the parent is worth a damn they'll have their kid picked UP by 4pm. The main reason for this is because of the increasing amount of teens in huge groups hanging out and harassing shoppers. Our mall doesn't allow more than 4 teens at a time to be hanging out as a group. This isn't that big a deal really.

Yeah, what if there's a solar eclipse going on when they shoo the kids out the building? If they look up they'll be blinded!!!!

I find this utterly ridiculous, and it's probably not gonna last for very long.
Teens hang out at malls all over the world I doubt many other malls will follow this 'trend'.

just the way it is. kids get lost and seperated from their parents,
and parents allow their kids to shop elsewhere while they are in the
same mall. in either case, according to this policy, they kid would be ejected from the place. with cel phones this wouldnt be so much of a problem
thankfully, but not everyone has celphones for their kids.

regardless of whats right or wrong (i really dont care to debate the ethics of it), there's what is. and this policy leaves the door open for potential mishaps. if a kid was ejected from the mall with a parent on the premises, and had no way to contact them, and something unfortunate were to happen, they would certainly have a case, wouldnt they?

not really. if they are responsible for separating parent and child, then its not just a matter of refusing service is it?
