After 4:00pm No more teens inside Malls without a Parent.

I mean you are indicative of whats wrong with teenagers today. Is that clearer?

Most teens that I knew when growing up wouldn't even buy things at a mall, they'd just go to hang out and maybe buy a $1.00 icecream cone. I really doubt that malls make a significant amount of money from teens.

This doesn't bother me, teens anoy me so good riddance.

Is there no possibility of the teen being asked to leave telling the security guard, "Hey, my mom's here, though," and asking the security guard go with them to find the parent? Hell, mall security's job is to walk around. I doubt they're going to start putting on their mirror-lensed aviator glasses and pulling out nightsticks if the teens don't immediately comply.

I say it's a good idea, honestly. We had the same kind of scenario at a this part of town in downtown west palm called "city place" cause all these kids would hang outside the movie theatre without going in and get in fights and scare off the tourists. It sucks for kids who know how to behave(like me back when this was happening), but the fact is since the cops started checking kids outside the theatre for tickets it's a lot more orderly over there. A lot of teens don't know how to/don't wish to behave.

As for hurting their profits.. the mall isn't going to sacrifice profits for this rule, I'm sure they know what they're doing.

This is stupid. 4 PM? The few occasions I go to the mall, I'm there until 11 or 12 PM... not 4 PM. These kids are 15! Not 2. Sure some people are more mature than others but in this case I can see immaturity only on the side of the ones making this ****ing rule. Young people tend to have a much less biased view on things because they don't have a bad experience here or a wrong turn there.

This shouldn't even have to be discussed. They are 15. A security guard here and there will stop any real threat, and I doubt any jokes they pull will hurt anyone permenantly. And since they don't, let them have their fun and live their life instead of having everyone's faces shoved up their asses, watching them and analyzing what they do.

As a teenager, I would probably protest this course of action. As an adult, I have to honestly say that it doesn't bother me in the least and would probably make my shopping experience more pleasant. Some of these kids are just off the chart annoying. That being said I hate malls and avoid them whenever possible and I am also done my christmas shopping, so I don't personally give two sh*ts about this issue at the moment.

Quite a lot money. Mostly in the Arcade, Food Court, Sports, Hobbie Stores, Pizza parlor...etc...beside kids rather hang around with their friends than with their parents.

From my experience and from what I witness, it seems that kids mostly want to hang out in a mall with their friends rather than spend any significant amounts of money.

i echo this sentiment almost completely. i once worked at a mall. mobs of teens would simply hang out in the halls or especially outside. i know it intimidated some patrons. also one needs to take into consideration the area where the mall is. are all teens bad? of course not. unfortunately, this is one of those cases where a few f things up for the many. security guards are overwhelmed enough and shoplifting costs everyone millions. it's even easier with larger xmas crowds. 4 is early, i'd say 7 would be more realistic but personally i have no problem with it.

Rest assured, if the mall operators felt they would lose significant income from this, it would not have even been suggested.

Ah but seem there are a great many that unfortunately ACT like they are 2 thereby ruining it for everyone else. I will however agree that 4pm is too early. Seven seems more reasonable.

Ah I have to agree with KD, I tend to avoid the place anyway. And the fact that the minority can ruin the freedoms of the majority is a problem they can figure out. For now, where I live, they don;t give a rat's ass if anyone breaks the curfew.

That wouldn't be the infamous "Senior Citizen Discount" we always hear about now, would it? 😉

I was watching ABC news (or some other network I don't remenber they're all the same) and there was this report from the Mall of America in Minneapolis that says that kids under 16 yrs must be accompany by his/her parents in order to shop inside the stores. Which I thought it was little to harsh. They claim that because of the holiday rush they have been encountering troubles with certain misbehave teens.

If a teen is not with his/her parent a security officer will escort the teen outside. And not allow inside again without a parent. Here is my problem...teens are the reason why malls make money. They buy more...they frequently visit them more than adults...and cause less traffic congestion. So why restrict them?

Because of this issue it most likely be changes in other malls across the country. So, is this a good or bad thing. Or age discrimination?

What the HELL? That's insane! As a 14 year old, I'd say it's a bad thing. I mean, WHY? I get that there are troublesome kids around and whatever but severely inconveniencing the entire population of 12-15 year olds just because there are a minority of troublemakers is absurd. And as previously mentioned, security guards would prevent any real trouble... plus rules like these just encourage trouble because even kids who wouldn't normally do anything would get pissed off because their independence is being infringed upon.

A couple of questions... is this just for the holiday season or is it permanent? And what about people under 16 who work at the malls?

You've demonstrated time and again in here AND the OTF your lack of common sense, Thats the reason you got that post from me "HOMES". 🙄

Can we enforce a 4 PM ban from the GDF, too?

Im sure they can finish their shopping by 4pm. Its not like they're banned all together. They can be there - with their parents after 4pm and without them before then.

Its fair enough.

I concur

And shopping is hard when 99% of the people in the crowded store have no intentions to buy anything and are just browsing for their own Christmas lists.

Throughout the entire week? I' ve read articles which report the escort rule will only be enforced on Friday and Saturday nights, as it was noticed that mallrats (large groups of teenagers who are hanging out, not shopping) are the most disruptive on weekends.

i think if kids are just browsing, fair enough, let them be, if they're just standing around doing squat, kick them out. alittle discretion and thought wouldn't hurt this situation at all

i have been to the Mall of America and have been kicked out. i was with my cousin (19) and myself (17). im a young looking person and we decided to catch a flick. so i didnt bring an ID. we went in, sure enough we got checked. i said 17, cops didnt believe me, almost harrassed us cause of this. he didnt let me speak or call my ma to tell them my age. my cousin said 19 and the cop checked his ID and even called over another cop to verify its authenticity. in the end, the cop(s) kick us out based on the fact that i dont have an ID. not that im not 16 or younger. and they claim he wasnt of legal adult age and was deemed not to be able to watch over me. like seriously, when does a 17 year old need to be wathced over at a mall, a shitty one i might add. correct me if im wrong, but isnt it 18 where you are legally an adult? so, they followed us out. like seriously followed. basically holding our hands on the way out.

but i swear, everytime i go to the MoA. i see groups of young ones 14-15. walk around freely. no hassle. but me and my cousin, who are both above curfew age, get hardcore escorted out. it was a little embarrassing to be honest.

never went back since.

Agreed, but kids nowadays excel in doing both at the same time!

why don't we save ourselves the trouble and just shoot them? 😐
