I was watching ABC news (or some other network I don't remenber they're all the same) and there was this report from the Mall of America in Minneapolis that says that kids under 16 yrs must be accompany by his/her parents in order to shop inside the stores. Which I thought it was little to harsh. They claim that because of the holiday rush they have been encountering troubles with certain misbehave teens. If a teen is not with his/her parent a security officer will escort the teen outside. And not allow inside again without a parent. Here is my problem...teens are the reason why malls make money. They buy more...they frequently visit them more than adults...and cause less traffic congestion. So why restrict them?
Because of this issue it most likely be changes in other malls across the country. So, is this a good or bad thing. Or age discrimination?

correction:
then again...maybe this is a good idea after all 😂
It seems kind of wrong to me. They're apparently making this a rule because they have some sort of experience with this age group that's left a bad impression on those who make the rules for MoA. But, the shop lifting issue is relevant in my opinion. Kids under 16 are hard to prosecute. So, it cuts down on pointless paper work and time wasted at the other end of the situation.
But, it does seem kind of one-sided and harsh.
Will this rule go away AFTER the holiday season has ended? That will help explain a lot.
Also, how can a 40 year old store clerk tell the difference between the kid who's 15 and the kid who's 16? I coldn't tell the difference.

Then why wont they do it in movie thearthers, resturants, arcades, and places like that. Kids get in trouble in those places so why wont they do the same for them. Im stil gooin to the mall andi give a crap if iget arrested im damn sure my friends at school aint gonna follow this rule at all homes.

I don't think I've ever heard of a 15 year old stealing an arcade game, resturant food or a movie screen from a theater. I'm sure I could be wrong...but I'm not sure.
Homes? WTF is that? Is that like...hommie or something?
Do you live near the Mall of America?

Might be....the way I see is like this...If there is a group of troublemaking teens then is fine to escort them out. But if is a group of gigglin teenage girls shopping inside a Hello Kitty store and they're not doing anything bad....let them stay.
When I was watching the report the security guard approach a group of teen girls who were buying drinks at a Orange Julius. They were under 16 and so the security guard aks them to leave. I felt that was just unfair.

exhibit A as to why the rule was probably put into effect
in a town near where i live the mall has been infested with gangs of "goths" (13-15 year olds with black dyed hair, black shirt and skate shorts, maybe some panda eyes, they're just confused is all) and the shop keepers are worried they'll do something so now if your not either engaged in shopping or eating there, the police have the right to frog march you out of the mall, no questions asked.
