Spelling, grammer and punctuation

I don't know about that. Shakespeare was only really appreciated posthumously...

I don't care if people don't capitalize shit, I don't care if they don't use a period in the right spot and put a comma instead, as long as they spelled shit in a somewhat decent manner and don't look overly stupid then I don't think they should get shit for it. But, the people who type shit like - "u dun no wut they do it 4 so shuup nub." really don't deserve any form of respect.

EXACTLY! I was an English teacher and small mistakes like that don't bother me in the least. Half the time I don't capitalize the proper way because I'm in a hurry. But the people that get on here and type in the following manner:
"Hey duz ne1 kno wut daey the King Kong moiez cums out?"
SERIOUSLY grate on my last nerve. By the time you hit middle school you'd better have a decent command of the English language arts and if you insist typing like a lazy bastard then you deserve every single flame you get for it.

Anyone who talks like that is an idiot and frankly a stupid retarded idiot to boot.... but then again, that is coming from a person who can piece together two actual words and spell them correctly too..

Do you get to the point where you're rampaging around your front room, taking your frustration out on your sofa cushions because you can't comprehend how, or why, people are so ignorant?

I do 😮

I'm still waiting for an explanation as to why such a thing as capitalising is a monumental time-swallower enough that you skip it when in a hurry.

This "In a hurry" stuff holds no water. Unless of course you have to take time to make sure you're using the correct grammar etc. In which case you're probably not using the correct grammar anyway.

I already said I didn't mean minor typos or even errors, nor exclusively internet forums.

Oh I know, but her post was right above mine... 🙂

✅ Exactly. It comes automatically to me... when I'm starting a sentence, my finger will land on the shift key. The punctuation is automatically inserted because that's where my fingers land as I type. When writing it's even more certain that capitalization and punctuation will be used, I don't even think about it. Why is this not the norm for everyone? We're all taught the same things, albeit in different ways. Why do we not all take it into account and use it naturally?

I find it amusing when people disregard punctuation, spelling, and/or grammar, yet still feel they should be taken seriously in a debate. This is not a case of style over substance, but rather if you don't know how to hold a pen, how can you write a novel?

I love this thread! I'm considered obsessive by a lot of my friends because of the way I rant about respect for language and now I'm discussing it with like-minded souls cry

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, WHAAAOOOA!

We agree on something. Let's not make the leap as to say we're like-minded 😉.

🙄

Sorry, sorry... I really wouldn't want to taint your reputation.

Tainted Love, good song that. Good song.

I was joking by the way. Not that I consider us like-minded, I just don't have a problem with you thinking so.

-AC

As it stands, AC, we are like-minded. On this occasion, we agreed. Therefore we are like-minded.

Why did you even mention it to begin with? When I said 'like-minded souls' I did not have you in mind.

*Throws Syren a chill pill*

Take this.

I wasn't being unchilled. I forgot to add le smilie 😉

Shut up you mindless, mindless scummers.

Correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation come to me by reflex. I don't even mean to and I type correctly and fix all my mistakes. I pressed 'backspace' about ten times just writing this post!

Of course there are those people who are just somewhat lazy and never touch the 'shift' or 'backspace' keys because it strains their little fingers. Because they never touch these keys it makes it hard for others to understand them, thus leading to problems and arguments that are pointless and not worth anyone's time. I try not to get into these arguments, but at times it becomes unavoidable, especially in the RP forums where it is crucial that people understand what you say.

Actually Sy its more like pounding my head on the keyboard like so: oin9YJMUYNDL;90CULFP.

AC, 2 reasons: 1) I post on like 18 forums so I get in a hurry K? Sorry if that offends you, just the way it is. And 2) My keyboard is going out and sometimes the shift key doesnt work and I dont take the time to go back and correct it.
