I don't know, actually. I think it depends. If someone actually does know proper grammar, spelling, etc., yet is lazy online or in texts, then it's just obscuring it. But if you see something like someone posting up a story they've written, or a paper or assignment, and it's riddled with poor grammar and text speak-type spellings, then I'd say that it's hindered them.
Yeah, definitely. Which side would you fall on as a generalisation?

I am a total perfectionist who will go back and edit if I spot an error. Even when I'm talking on MSN I'll scan my messages before sending to be sure that I haven't majorly messed anything up. I'm a bit nuts about it, but hey. Better than coming off as an idiot because I can't bother with basic grammar and spelling.
Me too! It actually scares me sometimes how obsessive I get. I make myself nervous 😕

Although, I have been forced to use abbreviations in text messages because my old mobile only allowed me a certain amount of letters. In order to say what I wanted to say, I had to shorten some of the words 🥷 Hard times...

I think I'm generally beyond reproach. Any 'mistakes' I do make are intentional and are their for ironic porpoises.I hope no-one is illuded by this proclamation.
clapping I think I love you 😛
The only times I find myself using abbreviations is when I'm using AIM, and that's because I want to get my point through before my friend interrupts me and ends up changing the subject, thus making me forget what I was about to say.
