From one speaking from experience then.......

If you don' t have any interest in the topic, or if you don' t have anything worthwhile to contribute to the discussion, then simply don' t participate in it. This is the very last time I' m telling you to stay on topic. I you fail to adhere then I will force you to by a temporary ban.

I think the Internet is one of the worst things to happen to language. I admit I always liked writing language, perfect grammar in those days, dotting is and crossing the ts. Of course then in comes computer talk, sms and all that. Terrible it seems, I never did pick it up, I sometimes use LOL, but that's it. I guess I'm a bit of a grammar nazi, I just like proper spelling and clear sentence structure.

Just seems like the decent thing to do, I'm not picky, I mean it doesn't have to be perfect, just somewhat clear.

"In relation to internet forums, I think it's important that people realise that we are producing typed representations of how we would verbally interact. I guess it's akin to reading the words of someone who is speaking in a book. The only difference is we don't add the " before and after the commencement of our posts."

"I'm not quoting anyone, by the way." < "Idiot"

With terms like "LOL" and "OMG", whilst I find them quite annoying, they could be seen as reasonable abbreviation.

When it gets to the point that you are actually typing "ROFLMFAO" or what not, it just gets utterly ridiculous.

I agree whole heartedly.

There was a point when I refused to use MSN because it made me feel like I was losing brain cells.
I can't stand bad grammar. Nothing complex, but when people don't understand where to put apostrophes, or the different between 'there', 'their' and 'they're' it just irritates me.
I'm sure they learnt that in primary school.

I'm not a violent person, but I would happily punch someone for using the abbreviations you mention...

If you are 'laughing out loud', why don't you just type "hahahahaha". I find that more aggreable. As for 'ROFLMFAO', I have no idea what that actually means.

I just punched myself, by the way.

Oh, wait...It it 'Rolling On the Floor Laughing My ****ing Ass Off'?

An interseting thing Americans do is to use the word "then" in place of "than", as in "I'm better off then you", rather than "I'm better off than you". Also, "I don't know nothing" when they mean they don't know anything, but what they say actually means the opposite! Americans are hilarious with their grammar and very economical with their spelling, unlike the English Brittons who spell words with too many letters - like color vs colour.

I always use the word colour and I'm not English. It looks better! 😱
ROFLMFAOLOLOLOLOLO!!!!

But the most annoying thing is incredibly large posts without any space in between making it look like a giant unreadable post.

Colour is more colourful than color. 🤣

Yes, I prefer to put a u in words where it is applicable. Just looks nicer.

That and of course, it's the correct spelling.

Americans have trouble with silent letters and non-literal spellings.

I no understand this thread. 😱

For anyone that didn't get it, I'll translate:

I don't care much about spelling. As long as the messages I try interpreting on this forum, get across.

Actually, that's just poor grammar, it's not because someone's American or not.
