Spelling, grammer and punctuation

Then isn't that to my credit? If you view owning as a sort of "Oooh he just OWNED you". Sort of cancels itself out *That smiley you used*.

I also asked him if he genuinely thought I was serious, asked. You know, like questions and that.

As if Amis seriously wanted to brand himself a wanker as well? He was writing a book entirely about English grammar at the time. Yes, I was kidding, that was all part of the whole point. Geez. You responded as a wanker, I did as a berk.

Nah, you can be a berk if you want though.

Anyway, fair enough, but may I use this as an example of why I'm not really that bad when people say "It's hard to detect when you're being humourous"?

Cheers.

-AC

As long as you stop labouring the point, yes.

Would you prefer it if I just didn't post? Of course you would. Haha, you. Nice to see you though, GCG. Love the sig, looks good. Keep safe.

-AC

I tip my hat to you, sir.

And what's all this BS about not being graded? You should only use correct language when being forced to?

-AC

Yes.

Every time I think I've seen KMC's dumbest comment, someone always manages to prove me wrong. It's the one area where I can't actually get it right.

Just like BackFire said, it's not an English class.

Every time I think I've seen the most dick comment on KMC, someone always manages to prove me wrong.

the least you can do is come up with your own put down, rather than just rewrapping someone elses and throwing it back.

Plagiarism ! I say !

Twice Indeed. From BF & AC. !

Off with his head !

"It's not an English class." So? It doesn't need to be for you to type properly.

That's almost as dumb as saying "This isn't UN HQ, don't discuss politics." Almost.

I personally, type properly, but not everyone on KMC does. Does it piss me off or cause me to lose sleep?--No. As long as you can understand them and they get their point across, then its all good, IMO.

And that little UN analogy sucked, because it was WAY outta proportion.

Of course it was out of proportion, that was the point. I'll spell it out for you next time. Although technically I already did.

Nobody is necessarily saying that you should be shot for a typo or what not, but when it gets to such ridiculous levels...well.

People all to often use the crap excuse of "You know what I meant." Well then say what you mean, don't say something else. Say what you actually mean.

I could agree with that, but usually you know what they meant and folks are just being a dick.

The point is, whether I know what they mean or not, they DEFINITELY know. So what's the point in saying one thing and meaning another?

With the term 'Pedantic' being the ostentatious concern for book learning, how could we ascribe this post:

Perhaps someone is being a wanker and a berk.

A particular response to my post could also denote that same someone falling into AC's option 3 ("the wankers (plural) who don't realise when people are being humourous or not"😉, too!

'Oh You Tea' spells...

Sorry, YKF, but what we have in here is simply your responses to Atlantis putting you firmly into the 'wanker' territory.

And BF and DB are right- this isn't English class, nor is it a letter to the bank manager. This is conversational English that, because of the nature, just happens to be in written form. Conversational spoken English is incredibly sloppy and no-one cares, and nor sould they here.

It only genuinely becomes a problem when something cannot be understood, but most posts that get accused in this manner are in fact perfectly easy to understand, and are only questioned on needlessly pedantic grounds that have far more to do with the desire of the correcting poster to lord his/her massive grammatical brain over the original poster than it is about any altruistic maintenence of standards. That's simple arrogance.

Oh, sweet! Thanks to Ush's selfless demonstration, we now have a fourth option:

The Ass:

When made to look a fool, the ass will do all he/she can to deflect attention away from their own misconceptions concerning grammar and the nature of all things.

That would apply if we were speaking, we're not. If someone speaks in a heavy East London accent I can understand them. If I was to type in one, accurately, you probably wouldn't understand it all. Because we are typing, this means reading is required. So it's more of a requirement that you not type as if you're hitting your keyboard with a hammer.

It's called internet etiquette. Or Netiquette, if you will.
