Then the complaints must have been cultural. Back to the standard English debate.

A lot of the complaints I saw were actually just outrage at the pressure being put on students to have correct grammar etc.

Well, I think language exists to communicate a message, and if we can communicate our message using less, then thats a good thing.

Not that it is unnecessary, but grammatical rules are only made to help communication, but we don´t need to strictly follow them to be capable of communication.

I see that you strictly adhere to your belief that you don't need to follow grammar rules. Sadly, the point of your post is difficult to decipher thanks to your rejection of them.

So, it would seems that you've ultimately defeated your own belief. Good work for that.

It seems to me that you got the message. Otherwise, it would be impossible for you to argue agaisnt.

But... yes I think that some rules can be important sometimes, specially when you are trying to explain difficult things like quantum physics, philosophy.... but many times they are not needed, it really depends on the situation.

Notice the word 'difficult', not 'impossible'. You argue that communication does not suffer as a result of poor grammar, but your post proves that it does. That's why your argument is self-defeating.

There is an argument that while spelling mistakes can be overlooked, poor grammar and punctuation reflect a disordered cognitive reality.

Notice that I did not argue that "communication does not suffer as a result of poor grammar" but that "communication sometimes suffer as a result of poor grammar".

Observe that I have said in my posts that "if we can communicate our message using less, then thats a good thing." I have also argued that "some rules can be important sometimes".

From my posts one can not imply that what I meant is : communication does not suffer "absolutely" as a result of poor grammar.

Oh, dear...I hate it when I have to be explicit for some people to understand simple things.

Your post was grammatically poor. This hindered the ability for you to communicate your message effectively. Do you understand now? Probably not...

What does "communicate our message using less" even mean?

Not really grammatically poor, that's a tad harsh 🙄

Uh-oh, it looks like we've got another one...

Ouch *checks previous post*

I got nothin' 😕

I'm a stickler for spelling more than I am for grammar, but I use both as correctly as I can. Though I used to use "u, r, etc.", I find it quite an annoyance these days and I quite think it represents laziness because someone can't type a few extra letters like a "y and an o" to go with that "u".
