Yea, Hercules was in a state of depression because of some traumatic event (Forget the specifics but I'm sure Thor would take it in stride) and he took a fall so that the Olympian could get back his confidence. At that point I think Thor was just tired of constantly saving his ass.

That's it? I thought it might have been more, something to do with the Dark Galaxy Saga, must have gotten the scene confused.
Hercules needs to step up his game, Thor would have taken that shit like a man and proceeded to up his game to win or at least wouldn't let it traumatize him like that. I guess that's what separates the best from the rest.

the wrecking crew didn't really do anything at all to him. all of them together+hyde+tiger shark STILL couldn't beat a HEAVILY DRUGGED hercules. it took a surprise attack from goliath--who was a friggin beast--to finally net the victory.

welll, yeah. but thor is only thor because of his hammer. those things may have been cool had some focus been placed on them. he's used the cloak and bow in comics, but they are nowhere near inetgral. hell, they're not even used as often as his mace which is only rarely seen. give herc a weapon equal in power and ability to thor's and, well, that would change things, drastically....
