not really when talking about the vacuum of space. an object will continue to move toward its trajectory till an equal and opposite force is applied.
I guess u could argue a gravity field from a planet can pull it toward itself but, I dont think that counts either way..

It was a great showing but the ship has it's own engines that Surfer apparently took over.Elaborate.
Well, for the ship to be moving FTL from being thrown, Surfer's body has to be providing the momentum.
You throw a baseball at 100 mph, and your fingers are also moving 100 mph relative to the ground upon release. Your arm itself would be moving less than that, but it would still be a decent fraction of it. Average person throws a punch around 20 mph, so I imagine an mlb level pitcher's arm is moving at least 20 mph on a pitch.
None of this is stated on panel of course, just thinking logically about the feat.

Meh, I guess, but you're over-thinking it imho.
If Thor, Superman etc. toss an object so hard it hits faster than light from the get go, it's probably intended to be mostly a strength showing. Same goes here I think.

infect the will as in they could not take manual control of it. they were stuck moving in a straight line. but Surfer threw it himself.

"The ship is under the sway of the Power Cosmic now. Infected with the Silver Surfer's own will. Push all the buttons you want, the ship is his now, thinks John."
Like I said, great strength showing (Especially for Surfer who's not that known for it), but it's very clear that Surfer took control of the ship there.
There's really no need to make it something it's not.
The Power Cosmic is controlling the ship, as the ship is mentioned to be "his" now. He set the chart manually for their new direction presumably through the Power Cosmic and his sense of awareness.
If it was intended to be a pure strength feat, Surfer would have just overpowered the ship's thrusters with physical might and not bothered to have the Power Cosmic set the course for them and lead them there.
The way I'm reading it, he physically tossed the ship, yes, but the Power Cosmic is guiding the ship to its destination as well as locking out Prestor and company from the controls. Still pretty impressive for a strength feat, but not a pure strength feat.

The Surfer has always had elite top tier strength it just isn't played up as often as Thor or say a Superman but it's definitely there.

It's definitely enough to ensure he doesn't get crushed in pure physical contest. But, imho, not enough to beat either in a purely physical contest, either.

A little, maybe, but the thing is, if you think about it these things aren't really separable.
I don't think comic writers have ever rebuked the idea that force = mass x acceleration. So, in the case of Thor, Supes and Surfer, their masses are known (like 600 something lbs for Thor and mid 200 lbs for Supes and Surfer). So, they don't weigh a whole lot...so logically the heavy force has to come from the acceleration multiplier.
It makes sense in the end anyway. If you are extremely strong for your weight, you are going to be fast too.

Always had? It was very clear that Surfer was more comfort on a noticeably lower level in the past but could amp himself by channeling the Power Cosmic.
In the last 2 decades or so, I think his just been considered -top tier- strong, without any of that amping complications. Although further augmentation is still possible with charged fists etc.

My opinion is that you're probably over thinking it, whether the idea goes hand in hand with these type of showings or not.

That says exactly what I said. They couldn't take the controls.
And then Surfer threw it, and they were stuck in that straight line because he infected it with his will.

😑
Guess I misread your post, apologies.
It should be noted that while Norrin threw it, the ship has it's own thrusters that would contribute to the time they spend on course (Unless he turned those off) etc.
