I hope it passes, because it is getting silly. But seriously, you don't think all of these low showings should affect thor at all jake? If that is the case, at what point do consistent bad showings start to affect a character? After all, apoc used to be a force to be reckoned with, but now he is just a joke due to consistent bad showings. All I am asking is how many bad showings does it take before a character is officially lowered? I am not saying that should happen to Thor right now...but if this shit continues for a lot longer I don't see why he should get a free pass. I just want to know how much of this crap does it take to lower a character.

It shouldn't effect Thor, because a few months worth of stories in no way, shape, or form, undo decades worth of canon showings under his belt for one thing. And for another, Thor's had some good feats recently anyway. Even if you count "current" Thor as starting from his rebirth under JMS (which makes sense as it introduced the new status quo with Asgard on Earth, Thor's new armor, etc.) he'd still be high herald. If you take it a step further and say "current" Thor starts with Fraction getting on the title, he still is incredibly powerful.

When there's an in story reasoning for Thor being explicitly depowered outside of just jobbing or does so consistently for over a year, I think we can talk about demoting him, imo.

Yeah, Thor drilling that kid in the gut was crap. They just did it to put the avengers in a negative light so no side seems totally right or wrong. A good writer would be able to do that without butchering a character's established personality.

Pretty much but what can you do? I'd like to know the thought process that goes on when they decide to butcher characters' established personalities and history just to serve their stupid story lines :/ Do they just say "screw it I've got the pen!" It's what it feels like a lot of the times

Ah, ok jake, I gotcha, that seems reasonable. I would agree with the year's worth of bad showings lowering him. Like I said, I was just curious what people's thoughts were on how many bad showings does it take, as I really don't want him to lose stock as a marvel powerhouse. I'm just annoyed with all the shitty writing and people using thor as a punching bag.

I agree, it's like the writers don't pay attention at all to what came before anymore. It's just disrespectful. If I had my way, there would be a job position at marvel and dc that solely dealt with matters of consistency in power and characterization.

I'd take that job

you and me both mike, you and me both. 😄

Of course the #1 commandment would be "Squirrel Girl always wins"

Oh, of course! that is just a given. 😉

That's a bit strong imo. He still has his moments and Mjolnir + his godly powers are good for cosmic threats but it's now almost a trend to sell the threat of *insert new uber plot villain* by KOing Thor in shocking fashion. I think it will pass.
just like people who defeat galactus turn into the next major cosmic threat. Thor is going to develop galactus jobber levels.... damn. well I'm done with all Thor and Avenger titles now.

What Bieb and Jake said. His character really has been wrecked recently. His speech has been butchered but so has personality. He punched a mutant teen in the stomach with a lot more force than you'd think he would for no real good reason either during AvX issue 6.

Can you post a scan? i'd like to see it.

I don't have the scan personally. But I saw it on here:

facepalm Whatever happened to Thor's nobility? Its like watching Silver Age Superman being a dick all over again.

Well, X-Men represent the younger generation, in comparison to the Avengers, of course.

Also, they have really been thumping the whole "X-Men have been under the thumb of the Avengers" deal.

The Avengers are basically "the Man" lately. Think about how many story arcs have been written where the Avengers have had opposition who were making them out to be the bad guys.

Constantly under scrutiny, other characters speaking out against the Avengers, etc.

And, Thor is basically the big gun of the Avengers. "Aryan God".

It sucks, but it also makes perfect sense, when considering the direction the books have been going in.

I've hated the Avengers as a team since Genosha.

And Emma isn't exactly wrong now, is she?

To be fair the Avengers have had their strides as an underdog, underground team fighting against the system. Part of their internal functioning is about this struggle, and probably the best part of their books.

No...hell naw. Nope Nope Nope, Nada, sh** no. People like Captain Marvel, Black Adam, and Wonder Woman would be fodder to Superman.

Phoenix knocked him out like 4 times.

And what makes you think Thor could've defeated the Phoenix?

I don't think anyone is saying he should. Don't you think Phoenix KO-ing him once might have proved the point though?
