Character Ownage

Yeah, sales wise AvX rakes in the money. And loyalists and diehard fans of either franchise really like it. Giving people abritrary power ups and ravaging years worth of canon and characterization doesn't matter if it looks or sounds cool, apparently. Personally, I think this event makes the X-Men look worse than the Avengers, but the pro-X titles are spinning things to make the Avengers look like "the man" and bullying mutants.

I hope the Phoenix Force dies in this event, tbh.

Wait...there are people that like the piss coming out of Marvel recently? AvX? FI?

Well not FI so much but AvX yeah.
I'm one 😎

I'm a fan of AvX because I'm a fan of the Force behind it & the purpose of the PF fits right into the main plot of the story.

Some don't like it for various reasons but to each his own.

The AvX story itself has been garbage. It's cool that the Phoenix is surfacing again, but the storytelling has been horrible.

Well you've certainty made your opinion on the matter well established. 😠

Agreed on all fronts

TBH I just see AvX as pandering to the masses at best and, at worst, allowing fan wanking drive storytelling.

I mean seriously -- there's actually a scoreboard. The point of AvX isn't to develop characters or plot, it's solely to appease fans who want to see action and explosions. I, for one, stopped reading it after the first few issues.

😬

This event basically puts the nail in the coffin of my interest in x-men.

The only issue I read was the one where Tony fought Magneto. Other than that, I don't give a phuck.

I chalk it up to another one of Marvel's poorly executed 'major events'.

Wolverine one shots Kid Gladiator with a pressure points, stating he's studied to kill pretty much everything in the Universe including Strontians.

Awesome scene and great skill showing for Wolverine. Don't think he'd pull that off against Poppa Gladiator or more established characters, however.

And really, Marvel blatantly promoted the event as such, too.

They said that AvX is basically going to be a huge drawn out fight between the Avengers and X-Men. The "versus" side issues will only glorify that.

So in a way, I guess they deserve credit in making an event which is basically billed as a great giant brawl between their two most popular teams and promoting it as such. I believe they even said at a conference that the story is summed up by its title.

To me personally, the only good things which have come from this event have been Magneto vs. Iron Man and Mar-Vell's return (however long it will last).

I find it humorous that a lot of the people hating on AvX for being a mindless vehicle for fights that is virtually devoid of story, also watch and enjoy the WWE...

What is AvX if not the comic equivalent of professional wrestling?

lol

The reasons I watch WWE and pro-wrestling in general are completely different than the reasons I read Marvel or comics in general.

WWE actually puts on good matches and has had some good angles for the past year or so (thanks in large part to CM Punk's summer).

AvX is basically crapping on both the Avengers and X-Men franchises to make a quick buck.

I don't read comics books for feats, battles, and random fights as a rule. I like them as much as the next guy, but the story is what's most important to me. With wrestling, I'm not expecting award winning caliber of story telling. At best, a good angle that makes sense or is hilarious in some form is all I need, and even then, the in-ring action can make or break that. There's also the fact I have some psuedo-professional interest in the industry as well.

I think its more of a summation of marvel last couple of events coupled with this one thats getting on everyones nerves.
Civil war, Secret Invasion, chaos war, Siege ,Fear Itself and now this. That a lot of strike outs.

mmm

A decent point. While not a fan of wrestling myself, WWE doesn't and hasn't really pretended to be something else. Comics are supposed to have a story that's worth reading.

Is anyone else getting annoyed by these crackle ads?

It doesn't.

Even in the world of pro-wrestling, which is like a bubble from the real world, everyone who's a worker or part of the biz acknowledges wrestling as a form of entertainment that's not the most engaging of mediums. Even the most dedicated and serious wrestlers will tell you that wrestling is absurd and over the top and very much a niche interest.
