Both Kurt Busiek and Tom Brevoort have denied so countless times. To think it was some conspiracy and marvel somehow let Thor lose to Superman is lulzworthy.
Thor lost and it was decided by both companies.
During the initial meetings and scripting didn't Busiek say that it was pretty much prima facie that Supes would beat Thor in the encounter?

Yup, everyone in both companies agreed that Thor would lose. Honestly this was the reason the first JLA/Avengers series in 1980 couldn't be published. Marvel refused to let Thor lose to PC Superman and the whole project was scraped!!!
Yeah. IIRC Busiek seemed bemused by the notion that anyone would think that the outcome was ever up for debate.
spoiler!!!!

I was re-reading Korvac's entire chronology, GoTG, Korvac Quest and such. Pretty good read all in all.👆
Yes, they really did some interesting stuff with an incredibly obscure character there. Korvac Quest is much better than Citizen Kang as far as Annual tying crossovers go.
(Those annual crossovers were mostly crap)

I only liked Evolutionary Wars and Korvac Quest among those annual events. Eclipso: The Darkness Within is far better than anything marvel came up in terms of annual events though.
I'll check it. Even though it was a novelty that never caught up talking about that format kind of makes me want to read it, it must be the ongoing/event fatigue catching up with me. Minis are always a good break from that stuff.
