i thought unchained was actually really good, at least the chunk of it i read. you're right about his mystery obsession, but that sh!t usually works for me. it's part of the reason i like him. thing is the build up rarely pays off, but that's the same with a lot of writers. i feel like if they hook you, they've mostly done their job even if the ending isn't as good as you might have hoped. imo stephen king is a master of that particular skill--awesome build up, usually terrible or underwhelming endings.
I was mostly underwhelmed by Superman Unchained because I really like his Batman/Swamp Thing [i.e. good single character driven stories]. High expectations and all that. It's a good Superman story...you should read it to the end, lol. And the ending to this one is actually good...
