Yes that's nice and all, but Frazier nor Ali had magical runes building critical mass as their fight went on. I'm assuming big c's quote is impling Colossus was winning before the runes were in play (which I would agree with going by the art alone). Besides that Colossus won with the help of the immenant explosion.

No they were fighting for money, a championship, and their legacy. And in Ali's case, maybe for his life.

The only part of a fight that counts is the end. Kuurth's corner threw in the towel. Colossunaut wins.

You practically said the same thing I did. But the only thing that is alike between the comic fight and your example was that someone threw in the towel. The reasons for that are far different, even metaphorically, from each other. One is a straight up fear of losing to his opponent. The other is a fear of being blown up by his own power. In the latter, Colossus did win, he is part of the reason that the explosion happened, but it wasn't just because of his own power, but a plot device.

I'm thinking that quote is giving Colossus a nod to winning, BEFORE the runes threatened to take Kuurth's life. I could be wrong, but that is what I'd like to think. But I wouldn't state that as fact without more clarity or a source.

So would that explosion have happened without Colossus?

Who knows, but if that explosion did not take place, what would have happened? Would Colossus just keep on pushing? Without that explosion, the Serpant may not have been in fear of losing the life of one of his servants and therefore Kuurth would not have been called back at the time taking the win (at least in that fashion) away from Colossus. In other words, no one would have thrown in the towel.

But if that quote says other wise, I'd definitely would like a credible source.

Edit: when I say, "who knows...", there could be another character that could push/pull Kuurth back through his own foot steps resulting in the buildup of the runes.

Sure there are other characters in the Marvel U who could have done it. But only one x-man on that day. Colossus was the root cause of Kuurth's exit. No one else on that day could have forced Kuurth back, initiating the build up of an energy that would have probably killed them both. This was obviously a weakness of Kuurth and the only way to dispatch him. Kind of like his Kryptonite.

Actually, it looks like the explosion did happen and Colossus tanked it.

To clarify a little more, I don't know if the energies Colossus was emitting had anything to do with the runes going critical, or that it was just the fact Kuurth was being pushed back through them.

My thought is that it was not Colossus creating the energy himself, but Kuurth being pushed back through them. A definate weakness of Kuurth that Colossus inadvertently exploited by driving him back at over 600 mph. It could also be possible that it was a combination of both Colossus and Kuurth. I'll have to go back and look.

I looked at it again. Illyanna says that the Runes' energies would destroy...at that point Kuurth's corner throws in the towel. I'm not convinced that the energy ever hit critical mass, but Colossus pushed on through it and went for a little jog.

That was a butt whoopin' Colossus put on Kuurth though. That's going to be one of the classics.

Magik's words make me think it did happen.

Could be. If so, that's just another thing Colossus trumps Kuurth with.

That was a bad@ss fight. Colossus put a beating on a Thor level or higher dude.

Agreed. And he did it without the luxury of a hammer. An advantage Kuurth had.

Good news for Colossus fans. From Kieron Gillen:

what happened to Cain after fear itself? I hope Peter's boost isn't temporary, it really does add a lot of depth to his character and it really legitimizes the Extinction team as a major threat to the superhero community and humanity in general.

"Cain's fate is certainly a hanging question. And I've certainly plans for Colossus' new state. It's a major plot for my run".

Note: I'd attach the link, but I'm not allowed (yet). But if you want to find it, google Kieron Gillen. It's on the Formspring website. Alot of other good stuff too.

What ever happened to Cain?

Not sure. I'm thinking he'll pop up soon. He'll probably get his power back in a year or two. Or maybe part of it.

What makes you say this? You know anything about Cain? or Colossus in the long run? interesting....hmm i hope peter does not lose the power though, even as a fan i found him rather boring the last couple of years. This power up really did him good. A lot of people talk about him now.

It's only a theory of mine. Marvel will from time to time make a character inactive or give them a comic book death. When Gillen's run on the Uncanny X-men is over, a writer may come along who likes the Cain Marko character. Or, Gillen himself may have plans for Marko. Gillen for sure plans to explore the new Colossus/Juggernaut character. And like you, I hope Colossus keeps his Juggernaut powers. The mutants finally have a heavy hitter on par with the Hulk(s) and Thor types. Cain Marko was ok as a villain, but he was not a mutant.

well as long as Pete gets to keep the powers i wouldn't mind a couple of mini series about cain, peter and Cyttorak the exemplars. Maybe they can turn the avatars into something like the gl corps. I would also love a mini between peter and illyana since both have magical demonic ties and are uber powerful siblings. great synergy there between the two. thanks to gillen...
