Issue #147:
This issue is awesome. It shows Spawn fighting a family of werewolves, all at the same time. The werewolves heal almost instantaneously (except in extremely vulnerable spots. They also seem to have a thing against fire).
The issue starts with a little boy finding Al passed out in the snow in Northeast Minnesota. His family takes Al in and nurtures him back to health, etc. etc.
A group of hunters is somewhere around, telling stories of huge wolves and such when they?re attacked.

Curse of the Spawn
Curse of the Spawn was a relatively short-lived series that lasted for 29 issues. It doesn?t directly relate to our Spawn, Al Simmons, but uses indirect stories and such to either strengthen already existing characters, or bring forth new ones.
I have to say, this is IMO by far one of the best ?on the side? mini-series. Especially a few issues in which I?ll actually present a lot of scans.
You?ll notice I?ll either post some scans, a LOT of scans, or no scans at all, but each issue will have some sort of comment (by me) so that if at any time you guys are interested in finding out what happened in a certain issue you can at least get a basic idea.
The entire Curse of the Spawn series takes place before Milestone came into being. Therefore, Spawn by then hadn?t killed Malebolgia. There was a relatively different hierarchy of power and such. That doesn?t matter DIRECTLY, seeing as how the series isn?t about OUR Spawn, that killed Malebolgia. However, when the McFarlane decided to make OUR Spawn powerful enough to be able to take down the lord of the Malebolge, he set a standard for the potential of demons, hellspawn and such. This standard did not exist during this series, which is mostly a good thing.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the short comments and the scans, and I really suggest you go buy this entire series. It?s definitely worth it.
Issue #1:
This is the first in a story arc that lasts for four issues. The action takes place in the future, 500 years from now. Heaven and Hell started their war 500 years ago. Hell got the upper hand, and all the angels are locked up nice and tight in Heaven, defending their home. Earth is left to rot at the hands of the demons from Hell.
In this chaos, a new Hellspawn rises. His name is Daniel Llanso. He?s a really kickass character. Problem is that he doesn?t get the chance to actually look into his powers much, since he dies in the 4th issue 🙁
Unlike our Spawn, this one doesn?t seem to have an affinity for manipulating necroplasm and its powers. He is however, very adept at using his costume in battle.

See, Daniel wasn?t made a Hellspawn by Malebolgia. He might not be as strong as our Spawn because of that. Malebolgia was considered pretty much the strongest Lord of Hell around (xcept for Mammon 😉 )

This is the last issue in the story arc of the future, featuring the Hellspawn Daniel Llanso.

Abel, one of the members of the Sanctuary was turned into a demon/undead by the Anti-pope. During the fight with the Navkies he kidnaps Matthew, Spawn?s nephew so he sets out after them.
On his way to find them, he runs into Bune who isn?t very happy that Spawn killed his ?children? (the Navkies).

Issue #5:
This is the first issue of a story arc that lasts for four issues. It ends with Issue 8. It?s about the birth and actions of a new serial killer called Suture, that spends her time hunting down other serial killers and?.well?..killing them.
General story:
Gretchen Culver is a very successful lady, very attractive also, from the upper east side (I think). As she?s walking through Manhattan, she happens upon the crime scene (while it?s happening) of a serial killer removing the eyes of his newest victims in a diner. She runs out and is hit by a police car. The ambulance that gets her doesn?t take her to the hospital though. They take her to a back alley, where the paramedics, and the cops that hit her rape her (she?s still alive).
They then beat her within an inch of her life, then take her to a serial killer that loves chopping women up to dispose of the evidence.
A while later, her body parts are gathered and a santerian witch performs a ritual that doesn?t only bring her back to life but also impregnates her with the ?spirit of the santerian gods?. Aka vengeance and such. She gets an incredible sense of empathy, incredible strength and speed and fighting abilities, etc.
But she doesn?t remember the life before.
Anyway, I?m gonna post only a few scans from this story arc, because while quite interesting and a good read, it?s not directly related to Spawn, so of little interest in this thread 🙁
John Mawbley (sometimes referred to as Mawbly by the writer in glitches I guess) is the name of the serial killer that takes the eyes of his victims.
