Why is "The Matrix" so worshiped?

I despise this movie! it completely baffles me that such a movie like this is popular beyond belief, nothing more than a MTV loving Neo-gothic punk's dream come true even for those black lipstick wearing freaks and people who thinks this is religious should get out and get educated.

If you want better action, watch "Commando" instead!

Yeah, I'm not all 2 fond of this 'movie' either.

I've seen the first one and It's alright but I don't worship it. Yet, therefore, I will not worship the second and third if I ever see them (Which I probably wont).

The zeal and obsessiveness of fans for the first film went beyond how good I thought it was, since it borrowed so heavily from much of pop culture, and highly resembled Dark City, just a year earlier. If there was a belief in another Star Wars-like phenomenon with the subsequent films, it went up in flames as the two sequels so bungled it all. Reloaded did very good box office, but all the head scratching story points came to open derision for Revolutions, which did less than half what Reloaded did. Matrix is done - unless the new partnership of man & machine pops up as a TV series.

Cause its different... Theres loads of films with dull stale storylines...
the matrixs story was fresh... us all being in the matrix without knowing about it?? new and different....

War between Man vs machine AI.... dull and old... so 2 n 3 weren't as good...

Don't you just love it when stupid people go on forums and post stupid non sense about how much they hate a movie? I just love it especially when they talk about a movie that just so happens to be one of your personal favorites. "Those freaks wearing black lipstick and people who think this is religeous should get out and get educated." That right there I would have to say puts your stupidity on a pedestal for all to see. You sir, are an idiot. Just because everyone doesn't enjoy a good commando movie as you would does not mean that since you are obviously jealus that the guys in green aren't getting as much attention doesn;t mean you have to make a moron of yourself in pubic by posting this. I do neither wear leather or black lipstic, I am a normal person as you and others I just have other more mature opinions of movies. More specifically this one and its sequels. I dont have the time to deal with you or your stupidness at the moment seeing as where i am in the middle of class so all I can suggest to you is to watch all of them again together and maybe see some of the website www.thematrix.com and maybe the philosophy parts of it and the extra bonus tape from the directors etc. You have absolutely no idea hwat you are babbling about so please. Why dont you "get aducated".

Edit: Just thought I would add that when you say things about religeon and such education, nothing in religeon is fact, NONE of it is. So therefor it is only being aware of others opinions, it has nothing to do with their intillectuality or mental status.

Meh , i enjoyed the basic premise of all of mankind being hooked up as batteries and the whole Bullet time thing was ...unique . But soon enough the series became a cash cow and i lost most intrest.....

They're okay action movies, but mixing a little Gnostic/Platonic philosophy into an action movie doesn't make it deep, profound, or even philosophically interesting, whatever "mature" people who post on internet boards in the middle of their classes to call other people morons might think.

Well its a cool movie not only because of the effects but because of a good script. If you dont understand the movie you can always ask. .

He has the right to point out that what JL289 is doing is basically whining because he doesn't like sci-fi and is promoting 'commando' movies.....

I have no business with the religion so that was a nice movie. That is all I can say.

For heaven's sake, people, saying that you don't like one scifi movie and suggesting a movie that you think people might enjoy more isn't "not liking scifi and promoting [the other movie]." It's not liking one overrated film and trying to suggest an alternative people might enjoy. "Rawr! How dare someone try to suggest a good movie on a movie forum? I'll show him!" If he was going into every thread in the forum and saying "this movie sucks, watch Commando" you might have a point, but AFAIK he isn't.

There is a difference between calling a movie good or bad and labeling a movie as mediocre then going on to insult and stereotype the people that enjoy it.

He should have been more tactful, but I thought he had a point--some people take the Matrix way too seriously. In this thread, for example, TheOne101 exploded in a fit of barely-literate rage, Adamwankenobi was apparently so nasty that a mod had to edit him, Basoone suggested that he just didn't understand it, greyfox implied that because he didn't like the Matrix he must not like scifi, and you called him a facist (probably not seriously, I realize). Rereading the OP, I agree he was out of line, but for Heaven's sake people.

My fascist comment was not directed at solely the thread creator. And many of the comments you mentioned were not derogatory. TheOne101 could also be more tactful, as you put it, but the thread creator was asking for this kind of response by not being tactful himself.

In my experience, people who don't like the Matrtix generally do not understand it.
