I agree, homes. I don't understand athiests at all. People should at least believe in something......hell, at least worship Zues and Poseidon......something.

I am an athiest because I choose to be.
Historical/scientific evidence has all but proved away the existence of a Deity to me, (and I'm not talking about Darwin's "Theory of Evolution"😉. For me, the fact of it is that we, as Humans, have an inate desire to believe in, as you said, something. We cannot except that some things in the universe may just be.
For thousands of years, Homo Sapiens believed in primitive "Gods," taking natural occurences, like the sun rising, and weather, to be acts of some being (or beings) that judged them. Over the years, these ideals transformed themselves into the "pagan" religions of the Aryans: the Vedic and Brahmanic deities; the Assyrian and Mesopotamian deities; the Egyptian and African tribal deities; the Mediteranean religions of Greece, and of Rome; and the Germanic and Scandinavian beliefs, (of which little save the Norse sagas remain today).
For some reason or another, (perhaps due to their continual slavery at the hands of other peoples), the Haberews/Hebrews developed, (along with some other Semitic races), the belief in a single deity; and that they were His (or rather It's, seeing as an omnipotent being cannot have an animalistic sex) chosen people, made to suffer to rise up from the ashes of the dead societies that oppressed them. Indeed, the Hebrew/Christian/Mohammedin belief in one supreme God has surpassed many other religions and beliefs by well over two thousand years.
This has convinced millions of people around the world, the stories from the Bible, and from the Torah, and from the Q'oran, (not to mention the apochryphal books). But one residing fact has always stood out with me: these tales are just that - stories designed to show the power of God. I have spoken with many Christian priests, and several Muslim leaders, and nearly all have conveyed one message to me: that the race of men always take the holy books too literally.
As one Jesuit priest said to me, "When it is said that Jesus turned one loaf of bread into enough food to eat many, we should not take this story literally; it is clearly designed to show the power of the Christ as the Saviour. When He walks on water, we must take this as a point that the elements have no power over Him; but he likely did not walk on water itself. The stories have been embellished upon over the many years, showing the same types of archetypal wordings and adventures that many mythic heroes have undertook."
[I must take a break now, as I feel winded, and as if I have gone off rather on a rant.]

Exactly my point. And look at what "his" confidence has gained us. Look at what "his" teachings have resulted in; murder, war, hatred, etc.
When asking why people don't just believe in god...what's the harm, should they believ ein all gods equally? Allah, Jehovah, Jesus, etc? Or are we just talking the god in which you believe?

Human are "creatures" of habit and because that, that means people have to get out there "comfort zone" to make changes to there life. People love living in denial and hate to make changes in there life. It also whether what there friends or a social group that the person cares on what they think of you, a social acceptance of the group on what you "believe". Other factors are in it like where the person has grown up, parents have a huge involvement too.

if you need fear to believe in something, you probably shouldn't believe in it.
Tell me, when you were five...you feared your parents in a way right? I mean if done something bad your going to get. How would you turn out if you didn't fear (in a healthy way) your parents...what kind of a bart oops I mean person would you be?
Once again, I'm not even going to peruse this thread. However, I'm going to sum up the posts so far:
"Why don't people just believe in God?"
1. Not everyone is weak-minded and brainwashed.
2. Christianity preaches a doctrine of hate and is clearly evil.
3. OH YAH WHY DONT U JUST NOT BELEEVE?
4. God sucks.
5. Evolution, duh.
6. 'Faith'...what is this 'faith' of which you speak?

Don't forget the rebuttals to these points:
1. We should believe just in case it's true. We should believe in anything as long as it's God, because it's better to be safe then sorry.
2. God loves and will save you and he will send you to hell because you should all burn in hell for not believing him because hell is where you belong because God loves you but you don't love him which is why you'll go to hell (not sure if we have had any of those on board lately, but there's a good chance if we have they have posted here)
3. You want proof that God exists? The bible. And faith. And God acts in mysterious ways. What can evolution do to challenge that? What, fossils? They are just people with mumps and camels with broken legs. (ok, that's the prove evolution thread, but the spirit is here)
4. God exists because *followed by the entire bible in quotes*
