Yeah. I think he is a good choice. Dr. Strange is more powerful than Thor, all in all. But, Thor has all of his huge amount of power, plus more experience fighting mystical enemies than almost anybody. He would be the logical choice to have enough understanding of the stuff to actually have an ace up his sleeve.

I hate to break it to you, but he has stolen Thor's hammer before. He simply casted a hand that grabbed it from him leaving Thor weak.

Hell, their age isn't that far off either. Strange is 5000 years old and Thor is somewhere around that age, too.
Like I said, Strange has nulled Thor's enchantment with a spell before. He just stole it from him.
dr. strange would win this fight. isn't strange a fairly good telepath or at least have some telepathic abilities and isn't thor susceptible to telepathy. dr. strange is easily able to defeat thor. strange with bloodlust on is insanely powerful. it would take someone far above thor to take down bloodlusted strange. Thor is destroyed in about 1 second.

Strange can steal souls as well, steal them and give them to people like Hela or any other devil.

This would be a great fight, but when the Doc will call upon Vishanti's powers or use his artifacts at their peak he'll take the fight surely at 60-70%.He can call upon gods and even Eternity can empower Strange.
From common magical force bolts, shields, and lightning, to further higher spells, telepathy, telekinesis, and can be enhanced from other Skyfathers.
Rarely the Doc acts dumb or makes the wrong choice, Thor's attacks may get through his defense more than once, but the problem is that Strange can just travel with his astral form, call upon some deity and came back ready for the Odinson.I think that only cutting loose quickly, VERY QUICKLY, Thor can stop the Doc.
Misconceptions on the fight with King Thor:
Strange applied on Thor an amulet imbued with energies from ALL Earth Skyfathers, like Zeus, Ra and others, who decided(after 2 centuries of Thor ruling Earth)to put an end to his actions.The amulet was made to make Thor unable to tap into the Odin Force depowering him as fast as it could be so that the heroes could approach him on a physical confrontation in the hope of killing him.Strange confronted Loki, who stole before years before the cape and the Eye of Agamotto, enhancing his Asgardian magic, outclassing Strange, but it wasn't an even match.

I don't think Strange's weather manipulation powers are on par with Thor's. They may be powerful, but Thor's weather manipulation powers are amazing.
Thor can increase the lightning effectiveness Ten thousand folds. An excellent example would be when Thor defeated Prime by increasing single lightning bolt a hundred folds, and proceeded by blast him with it (Remember that just a single lightning bolt is equivalent to 15,000,000 volts of electricity and could travel 100 million feet a second). However, the most devastating lightning attack ever conceived by Thor is one that involves the "purest of lightning". In other words, a bolt of "Purest of Lightning"; which is a Magical bolt that emanates From Thor's hammer- creates a chain reaction of pure energy causing the ground surrounding the blast to erupt like a living volcano; thus, producing a Giant Crater along with a Holocaust of White-Hot Lava. In addition, Mjolnir can tap into just about any Elemental Phenomenon in the Cosmos, like, for example, the limitless energy of a Maelstrom. Thor tapped in and used that energy as a Cosmic weapon. A Celestial Maelstrom can literally drag large Meteors, or Asteroids around at amazing Speeds, somewhat like a hurricanes or Tornado, but on a cosmic scale. Mjolnir can also create Thunderstorms, Tidal Waves, and exploding Volcanoes on a Planetary scale. For instance, Thor used a gust of wind, or an powerful tornado, that he literally forced against Surtur, causing Surtur to say: "NEVER HAVE I FELT SUCH FORCE!".
So to say Strange's weather manipulation skills are greater than Thors is a bold statement.
Thor's speed has never been given a limit, but the fastest he's been clocked moving is 3x the speed of light.
