If it happens. I was reading that Margarito might have to face mandatory IBF opponent Joshua Clottey. Last time they faced Margarito had a hard time with Clottey even though Clottey had a broken wrist/arm I believe. I still wanna see Cotto/Margarito though.

Cotto vs gomez was ridiculously easy but margarito might cause some trouble and maybe evn an upset who knows?

Maybe, but I seriously doubt it.

If they make him fight the Mandatory Margarito will more than like drop the belt in order to get the big money fight with Cotto. No point taking a fight with Clottey and possibily ruinning his chance at facing Cotto for the bigger payday. He already made that mistake with Williams.

Was Gomez a mandatory fight for Cotto? While watching the fight I kept wondering that COtto gained nothing fighting Gomez. He is virtually a nobody and Cotto really gained nothing from the fight. It made no sense for him to fight Zab Judah then Shane Mosley only to go fight a nobody after that. Taken Gomez retired Gotti but I doubt he wouldve done it at Gotti's peak.

It was just a stay busy fight for Cotto because he had two back to back hard fights. Cotto got a chance to stay active while at the same time getting a decent sized paycheck since Gomez had a decent following because of the contender.

I suppose. I did liked Gomez in The Contender and was happy when he beat Gotti but when hes fighting my boy Cotto thats a whole different story.

Just watched Hopkins v. Calzaghe. Dirty as hell (on both sides) but an entertaining match. It should've been UD, but Zaghe won by split decision.

There's talk of him fighting Kelly Pavlik down the line, though I'm not sure at what weight. Pavlik's my boy so I'd love to see it happen. He's got a blow-over match in June, and I think his trainer is trying to work something out with the Calzaghe camp.

yeah good fight...that was some right by hopkins in the 1st but he came back well and it should have been UD...the judge that scored it in favour of hopkins was way off the mark compared with the other judges scores

calazghe hinted that he's only going to have 1 more fight...and that Roy Jones Jnr is on the shortlist...i really have no idea why when there are better fighters that he should be proving himself against....like Pavlik for example

jones is a spent force and his ego never recovered from his defeats...same with Jeff Lacy after he fought calzaghe

i guess a jones fight would pull in the big US money more than a pavlik fight would though

jones speaks about a possible november fight around 5 minutes in

Is it just me or do boxers build their record by beating a string of nobodies these days?

VVD correctly said, Mayweather is the only one who fought another top level fighter and won. Twice.

problem is that alot of fighters in alot of divisions would be journeymen in previous generations of boxing

Yeah. I wasn't that impressed by either guy. I agree with you, especially in middle and heavyweight.

well..they're hardly two fighters in the prime of their careers anymore...both cant have much left in them

at least there are some prospects to look for as i mentioned earlier in this thread

Andre Dirrell
Andre Ward
Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr
Chad Dawson

I'd like to think Pavlik scares him.

Pavlik has fought the best at his weight class, so he didn't cupcake his way to the middleweight title. But Calzaghe would definitely be a "legacy fight" for him, since both are undefeated and have fought a strong string of opponents, but nobody I'd consider transcendent.

Having seen both fight more than once, I'd like Kelly's chances in that fight regardless of the weight class (it might even benefit Pavlik to go up to light-heavyweight to fight Zag's), though I'm obviously a bit biased. But calzaghe is one of the few who doesn't necessarily need to prove himself anymore, so I can see why he might avoid Pavlik...Kelly's still making his name, calzaghe already has one.

I think part of the problem is the numerous weight divisions. And also because of the ridiculous number of belts that exist. Many "belt-holders" would clearly lose if they defended it against better opponents, so they hold onto their meaningless belt against crap opponents because having the belt ensures them a decent payday. Generally only 1 belt matters at any weight class, and that guy is legit. But there's a bunch of other pretenders and it waters down the field.

Quality still exists though, as well as belt-holders who defend against legit opponents. They're just th exception sometimes instead of the norm.

it's definitely a fight that the age difference would tell i think....i think pavlik would need to prove himself at super middle 1st though...perhaps againt Kessler...but now that Pavlik is fighting Gary Lockett in June then i cant see a fight against Calzaghe happening anymore

Taylor doesn't have a fight lined up so Calzaghe might end up against him....but i guess by the vid i posted that it's most likely going to be Jones Jnr

I'd like to see Chad Dawson fight Joe

Lockett is from Pavlik's gym...it's a cupcake fight while the Pavlik camp works out a deal for a "major" fight. At least that's the word I've been hearing. That's why Calzaghe's name has been popping up. But yeah, super middle might actually benefit Kelly, and he is a lot younger.

I am going to cover this fight for Fighthype.com. Locket is going to get KTFO.

just finished watching the Carl Froch fight....damn he is a good fighter to watch...his low hands and big hits style is fun...he's now WBC no1 contender and looks like his next fight might be against Kessler

also watched Timothy Bradley beat Junior Witter...definitely going to keep an eye of Bradley.. Bradley is definitely looking like a good prospect...only 24 years old and 22-0

Mayweather/De la Hoya round 2...september
