Fifa Germany 2006 - world cup thread

Ah well, if it had to be someone, I'm glad it was Ghana. Very positive, exciting team, and after Ivory Coast's undeserved exit, it's good to see an African team present in the knockout rounds. Italy don't deserve to go through, and fate has obviously been conspiring against the Czechs this year, but hey.

I will now decide whether to support Ghana or Holland for the rest of the tournament.

its always a shame to see the 5th best team in the world go out so early...

ehem

penalty kick was a horrible call, but it really didnt matter usa played poorly and didnt deserve to move on.

The problem with the US is they are far too zone orientated.

It seems like Bruce Arena read the football tactics and rules book, then said "Look, this is how you play, I've read the rules."

There's no creativity, no fluency. Just continual trying to cross the ball in.

😂

You dont know how correct you are, just look at the way MLS players play.

I have, it's just so poor. Not even compared to the Premier League, but any league, pick one, the Vauxhall Conference, even.

The problem is, none of the commentators or coaching staff see anything wrong with that method of play, so I doubt they're going to get better, honestly, until they get a foreign manager. Yet I honestly believe the US would rather not be there than do that.

I'm personally a fan of Argentina. Them against mexico on Saturday should be an entertaining match.

Now, if Bruce Lee was a goalkeeper...

I agree with you on that.

Also.. why is Freddy Adu being hyped so much? The boy is so shit its not even funny, compare him to Fabregas or Messi and they both blow Adu out of the water.

They blow most people out of the water, though I get your point.

Argentina are the best team in the tournament by far atm... amazing players in every position, and amazing players on the bench as well

I think it's the attitude of over confidence and misplaced sense of superiority that hurt the US in this WC. Most of the American analysts not only predicted them to advance but to win the group.😂

The US needs to play with the same hunger and desire for respect that they had in 2002 and not get caught up in all the hype.

Italy don't deserve to go through

Yeah, right. uh ok, sure. You believe that and have fun with that dude. I guess winning 2 games and not losing doesn't qualify you to move ahead right?

The US definitely deserved to go through right? 🙄

It was a shame that the Czechs were unfit for this WC. The injuries just caught up with them in the end. It would've been nice to see how far they would've gone otherwise.

It was nice to see at least one African team advance. Go Ghana!

Anybody think they will have a chance against the Brazilians?

Personally I would've rather seen a healthy Czech vs Brazil match up but I think that Ghana's speed and courage to attack will give Brazil some fits in their aging back line. I'm not saying they'll win tho, just pointing out they might give them fits is all.

Italy's one good game was a fluke, they're just a boring, dull and uninventive team. Sure, it's not their job to entertain, it's their job to win, but I don't believe they deserved it ahead of the Czech Republic.

They didn't have a good game against the Czechs today?:

Does anyone else think that Japanese Goal Keeper is great so far?

He is doing excellent, very good goal also. Well, the finish.

Brazil have been hyped up to all belief atm... worked badly for them, everyone just sits back and plays on the counter.

might be boring, but kills off Brazil pretty well

Goal by Ronaldo?

Wait, Japan score an admittedly good goal and everyone chooses to overlook the fact that the first half was dominated by Brazil?

Bit stupid. Brazil are weak on the break, yes, but they dominated that half. The scoreline doesn't exactly tell the story. Japan got a very good goal, a deserved goal. Taking nothing from them, but that was a single moment. The rest of it was Cicinho running them rigid and the rest of the team playing pinball on the edge of the box. They've been a bit wasting with their chances, but then Brazil always are.

The anti-hype hasn't worked against them for me. I didn't expect 8-0 wins.

Yes, a goal by Ronaldo.

Mr. "I know my shit, I'm very intelligent and you aren't" Mattomic was right though! Brazil have got a distinct lack in world class attackers. Robinho has played well shit hasn't he? Oh wait...
