Fifa Germany 2006 - world cup thread

I'm starting to see a pattern......

Sven's ignorance always overrules changing his tactics, he has made so many bad decisions over the past few years and i've only jst really realised it

Like taking four strikers for one, I had my reservations about that from the time he did it though, then he gets bullish over Rooney, we get him back and he fails to live up to the hype!!!!

Lampard and Gerrard hit their penalties with the enthusiasm and energy of a dead slug, Carragher has never taken a penalty in his life (from what i've seen) but all credit to Hargreaves, not only did he stay calm with the spot kick, but he was our best player by a country mile today, and has been coming on as a player for some time now, i'm just glad I was always a fan of his and that I never got on his back in this "Hargreaves is shit" crap that alot of the England fans AND pundits did

We lost today, on a cruel penalty shootout, i'm gutted, but hey.....we'll have other chances, we played better with ten players today than eleven, had so many chances to win it, had it been a boxing match, we'd have won on points, but it wasn't, and we're going home, I won't miss Sven, he's made so many mistakes, and he finally got caught out for it

On a Rooney note, was never a red card, the decision was influenced by mr overrated......Cristiano Ronaldo, he is such a ****, and I hope to god Rooney gives him a smack for his sly, underhanded tactics

See ya all again in four years!!!!

what was he meant to do exactly in the role he played?

Everything, like people suggested.

France have dominated this game I believe.

-AC

It seems to be the theme of the quarter-finals, the teams expected to win......lose, except for Italy ofcourse

😄 😄 😄

I'm not surprised at Germany, France I didn't always write off but I'd be lying if I said I thought they'd be there. It just happens, France have Brazil's number a lot of the time, tonight was that night.

France had the midfield in their pocket and Zidane had his night, France deserve their win to the fullest. I'd love a France/Germany final.

-AC

It was a good game, I really enjoyed that but was disappinted to see Brazil sorta sleeping if you will. Some good defending by France after the goal. IMO Brazil started off with a bad formation.

Well folks, we're gonna have a European world champion!!!!

It has happened before.

Everyone counted out Germany and France, now they're the two likely teams to meet in the final, although I don't want to say anything is likely anymore, this proves anything can happen. The very reason I never say "Brazil will win", or "Argentina will win". Although I thought Argentina may end up meeting Germany in the final if not before.

-AC

Go France! 😄

Off-topic, I know, but who agrees that Thierry Henry is one the cutest (?!)and most humble player ever?

I mean, after he scored tonight's goal, he played it so cool.

I dunno, maybe i just needed something like that to get over England losing.

Your lack in grammar disturbs me. 😐

Yep.

I actually said Gerrard would miss a penalty- in about the 60th minute. I just knew it'd happen.

Hargreaves is the man.

I mean it's like that with a lot of things. I mean, if Radiohead or Tool would disband now, wouldn't you be kind of unhappy about it?

Although they'd then stop releasing music. England will still be in the next tournament, win or lose.

Luckily I've got money on France from back when they were 'shit'. 50-1 chance, apparently.

True, bad analogy.

what was the name of the song at the end of the england portugal match?

Please use our official "What's the Song" Thread.....haha, just kidding, or am I?

Well, anyways, do you mean before the penalties? If that is so, it is the very famous song "Que sera, sera"...I am not sure which version we heard though.

it was played at the end credits

Well, our games over here don't have end credits....so you'll need to wait for AC or some brit who has seen the same thing as you....

Well, Brazil's gone.

What a game by 'El Mago' today. Who said he was over the hill? Controlled the midfield like a true pitch general. Delighted us as well as the Brazilian players with flashes of his old brilliance.

In the end Zizou showed up for this WC and the great Ronaldinho unfortunately for Brazil and their fans didn't.

Let's not forget that it was Zizou who taught him everything he knows...

And for my England fans, I know you chums must feel gutted today but here's a little somethin that might just cheer you up a bit....

Remember lads, 'Always look on the bright side of life...'whistling

England and penalties, why do those words fill England fans with despair?
Rooney was unlucky to get sent off, yellow card at best. The irony was that we played better with 10 men. Lennon looked dangerous and we created more chances, unfortunately our finishing was piss poor.
Hopefully McClaren will show some balls and give these promising youngsters we have a chance and get rid of the geriatrics.

France totally outplayed Brazil and were worthy winners. Zidane turned back the clock and bossed the midfield. Ronaldinho had a very poor tournament, i was hoping as a football fan to see him at his best.

Germany and France have to be the favourites now, i think the Germans have been the most consistent team in the tournament and will probably win it all.

I'm still waiting for a significant explanation or reply as to why England are somehow better than Germany. I'll never get it (the reply).

-AC

I've explained it so many times to you before AC, why England are a better side than Germany, and it's getting tiresome to act like a broken record, so just get it into your head

We have better players-FACT

We are always considered firm favourites from pundits, ex-pros, media, not just in England-FACT

We have alot more matchwinners in our team-FACT

Germany have been on a downward spiral for ages, no one has considered them anywhere near being a favourite to win any tournament since USA '94-FACT

They're on home soil, and so are expected to do well-FACT

The last time we played them, the difference in quality showed-FACT

I could go on, but me thinks you get the point
