thats one. feel free to post any others.
my point is that an athiest, as stated, disbelieves or denies. you have to have knowledge that there is a belief in order to disbelieve it, correct? how can you deny an idea that you dont know exists?

i think in order to be an atheist you must first ask "is there more than this?" and then come to the conclusion: "no"

Don't think so. I think atheism is not to believe in any goods or other transcendent things. A baby doesn't do that. Now to be an agnostic you'd need some thinking. The thing is I wouldn't deny that a child would be christian from birth if it believed froim the beginning that there is a god...it doesn't though.

Atheism is a disbelief in the existence of any sort of higher being. Agnosticism (is that a word?) is not being sure whether or not a higher being exists, but requiring proof of the existance of one in order to believe.

WRONG 😛

jar jar binks is real. hahahah no 😐 im serious. there is a real set of films with a real cgi character voice acted by ahmed best named 'jar jar'. you sat down to watch ep1 and had to deal with jar jars annoying voice, and stupid inappropriate slapstick. your were watching/hearing/being annoyed by this character and you ended up
hating him. whether or not he is fictitious is irrelevant. so although you dont believe that a REAL jar jar exists, you were annoyed to hell by a tangible character. so yes, jar jar exists. how else could you hate him?

I can't say I've wasted any time wondering where I'll go after I die. Because it's nowhere.

I know how the bible was written. It was written by a number of people long after the events supposedly make sense, making it - at best - an inaccurate second-hand account, and at worst a complete work of fiction.

And no, they ARE contradictions. God supposedly forgives all, yet anyone who doesn't do what he says will go to hell. People can sin and be horrible people but so long as they confess they're fine, but someone who does not believe yet leads a good life and is a moral person is condemned. Yeah, that's a contradiction.

I do not "instinctively" know that there is something out there. I do not believe anything based on faith.

Don't bother praying for me, I don't want it. I don't want your beliefs, and I don't want your pity and contempt. And quite frankly I find that incredibly offensive that you will not accept the fact that I am quite secure with the fact that I am atheist.

🙁

You sound very angry.

My worldview/religion makes me, my wife, her family, my family, and many others, happy.

Even if it isn't with Christianity, ... I hope you find happiness.

You may not like it, but I still have the freedom to pray for you. 🙂

Yeah. I tend to get angry with people who refuse to accept the fact that I do not believe the same as they.

I have been much much happier in the years since I abandoned religion. Why? I don't have any false standards to live up to, only those set by myself.

And I still have the freedom to tell you that I find that offensive and that it is simply a waste of your time.

I was dead serious dude,

I meant that out of total love.

I hope that her life is happy, and I pray that God reveals himself to her.

I don't pray for people to feel "Fire and Brimstone".

I respect yours and hers right not to practice my religion, but please don't mock me if I say that me and my wife will pray for her.

I meant that in a kind, positive way (truly!) 🙂 I wasn't putting her down.

Just for that, me and the missus are praying for you now too! 😛 😉

hey, i am what i consider to be a catholic agnostic. so although i cant stand bible thumpers, i dont hate christianity. so if you wish to pray for me go right ahead. but dont pray as someone above me, feeling pity. thats an insult. if its just from one sinner to another, then yeah fine. i dont firmly believe, but what can it hurt?

There's a book...called bible...it's about this God person....ergo he exists as much as "My Dear Friend Jar Jar" .....

I'm an agnostic and I am quite un-angry and happy. I am sure there are very unhappy and angry agnostics as well. Just as there are unhappy and angry hristians...probably those against abortion and homosexuality.....

I'll point out that out of everyone I know, those who are religious tend to be much more unhappy in general than those I know who are agnostic/atheist. Why? Because they worry about every damn thing they do being a sin.

but there is no character called god which tells the story. there is a parent or a priest or nun etc. there is no representation of god to hate.

lets say i go on and on droning about the great platypus and all his glory for hours and hours while you are forced to listen. will you end up hating the great platypus, or just me for annoying you?

Indeed, and I hope that you will not still be:

Something from a personality quiz thing....pretty accurate.....

quote:
Stability results were very low which suggests you are extremely worrying, insecure, emotional, and anxious.

Orderliness results were low which suggests you are overly flexible, improvised, and fun seeking at the expense too often of reliability, work ethic, and long term accomplishment.

Extraversion results were low which suggests you are very reclusive, quiet, unassertive, and secretive.

You may not believe in Him, but God loves you.

He wants you to be happy.

You can cut me into a thousand pieces and lay them in the street, and every piece will still scream "Jesus loves you."

Count on me,and several people I know, praying for you on a day-to-day basis now.

🙂

Okay sithsaber, I'm just putting you on ignore now because you can't get it through your goddamn head that I don't want to hear your brainwashing "god is good! god loves you!" drivel.

I will hate you for annoying me, and I might or might not hate the great platypus, which very much depends on his actions. Now God is quite a character in this Bible thing he created the world (let me quote Douglas Adams here: "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move. "😉 ...he made this laws that piss people off...what the hell not thinking about screwing your neighbours wife...BULLSHIT I SAY....

Take God as a fictional Character and there is quite a good possibility you might hate him....I for example HATE Blanche from "A Streetcar named Desire" she's just fictional though (mind you I read the play, I don't hate the performing actor, whoever it might be)

well, i guess a character in a book can be worthy of hate now that i think of it. but how is it possible to hate a character and then love them, when they have done nothing to redeme themselves?

but lets get to the point. to hate god is to believe in him, unless you view him as an unsavory fictional character. but i doubt that was the case.

Yeah well..that'S a point I don't feel like argueing...to agree with sithsabre once is quite enough.....oh and w00t

Sithsaber, you speak of wishing happiness on people, you speak of tolerance and all that. Why then are you not tolerant of the choices people make when they have absolutely no bearing on you?

What is it you christians do not understand? You preach forgiveness, love and care, but you fail to realise that by forcing your beliefs upon people you are contradicting the very ends you set out to achieve with your means. By acting as you are, you hinder more than you help. What always confused me was why people like you always push and push to get their beliefs across or accepted, but I think I know why.

I think it's insecurity of those with dwindling faith in their lord and savior. I think that living by the age old "God will judge them, let them do as they please" phrase is just not enough if you aren't sure God even exists. You want these "sinners" to be punished I bet, but I'm betting that you're not even sure your God exists to exact that judgement and punishment for you, so in desperation you must try hard to either condemn or convert. In converting you are not alone, in condemning you are self-convincing. It's a win/win situation for christians isn't it?

You say it's insulting to suggest you don't have the right to pray for people if you choose to, seeing as it doesn't affect anyone else, correct? Why then, in this thread and others, have you spoken in defence of those who wish to condemn others for choices that have no bearing on anyone's life but their own?

i disagree with that. athiests believe in nothing that is not worldly. you never had a monster under your bed? even without the aid of organised religion, children do seem to have a universal belief in the supernatural 😛

That's still a belief. You're not born thinking that, you attain that belief. Every baby born into this world is born an athiest.
