Epic doesn't consider playing with friends cheap, but what they don't encourage is team stacking. That is why the patch no longer shows who's host anymore. People just stacked a team with friends and either started the game 4 on 3; or just simply abused the fact the other team was full of random players who just met. I understand their logic; however the players are not to be blamed for that. It is their online system that is to blame. Had they used a style similar to halo's matchmaking all would be fine, but no they want to be "original" and in the process fail to compete(online multiplayer wise) with a 2 years old game.

So, according to that logic, creating a party with four of your friends and playing matchmaking in Halo 2 would be stacking?
It's ridiculous.

Seems to me others have been mislead as I have, then, what with this idea of "taking advantage of four strangers that just met" stuff. 😬
the word stacking on team deathmatch games has been around for so freaking long. i remember first hearing the word on, i believe, quake3. i don't remember where i first heard it. but we had a team of 6 vs 2. and the other team said "dude teams stacked" and i asked what that was about...and what do you know, i found out 😬

Lets remember that Epic didnt do this to purposely piss people off, its part of Microsofts Policy to not show who is the host.... this is called TrueSkill. However for some reason I still get placed together with noobs who dont know what they are doing.

I don't see what is so wrong with the Gears of War lobby, I mean, the Halo 2 one wasn't that great, yeah, it was good, but it wasn't AMAZING, maybe that is just because I don't like Halo 2 online though...
What I meant by "lobby" system was "party" system.
And there is no party system in GOW, which really does suck, no matter what you're comparing it to. Especially in a game like this, where teamwork is so essential. 😬
