It could be how the fighters and the game has changed over the years. Like in Football, players are stronger and faster.
This. Jones is the future of MMA. The future can't be stopped.

Yep. He's only my age and now has a UFC title. The funny thing is, Shogun did the same thing earlier in his career. He won the Pride MW Tournament at the same age Jones is now. It's poetic in a way to lose to the next phenom
That.

Well I stand correct. Shogun totally got manhandled by the greenhorn. It reminded me of Velasquez vs Lesnar; one-sided with the champ not pouring his heart-&-soul into it. But in that instance, Velasquez was the favorite and the one with the experience. Shogun is a veteran of the sport, and at 29, still young. By all objective measures, he should have won. Oh well, es nada sucede

At times, I wonder if the champs sometimes simlpy throw the fight. The Romans use to call it: Lenio vestri sarcina, "Passing on the burden to another". In reference to a champion being tired of being the champion.

I don't think anything's been thrown. The champs tried hard &they just lost to the better opponent. By all objective measures? When this fight was announced I took everything into consideration &instantly knew(99%) the outcome. Many said Jones had never fought anyone like Rua, while this is 100% true they weren't thinking about how Rua, even w/all his exp, had never fought anyone like Bones. That type of person simply didn't exist while Rua was becoming the legend he is. Exp isn't everything. It was a great fighter who had been shown to be beatable vs. a guy who makes everybody look bad, a guy whose only negative career point came from beating the other guy up the wrong way.

Let's not forget about Phil Davis. I know he doesn't have the reach nor the unorthodox striking displayed by Jones, but this kid has tons of potential too.

Good points. When Jones submitted Bader (who was undefeated) and handed him his first loss, I thought to myself "Yeah, that kids' got potential". And frankly, I just can't see Bader beating Shogun...but then again, who knows.

It's dumb when fighters say "He's never fought anyone like me". It's a pretty meaningless statement, cause the other guy can always say the same thing; big deal. It also doesn't necessarily mean he's better than the other guy. Just a boring, redundant thing to say.

I am going to Ditto your Ditto.

For me? I want Lil Nog to win. For the sport? I want Davis to win. Somebody needs to dethrone Jones ASAP. 🙁

^Why? He won the title fair and square. And he did it with an exclamation point.

Because I refuse to support snitches.

😂

So...discussion time.

The LHW division, rivaled by WW, is possibly the most stacked division in UFC right now; the champs just can't seem to hold on to their belts. Do you guys think Jones will break the chain? If not, who will beat him?

What are everyone's thoughts on Machida vs Jones? He is commonly mentioned as a good fight for Jones. Machida is a much more defensive fighter than Shogun, and many consider him to matchup better with Jones; Shogun's offense, his main tool, was shut down due largely to Jones's reach. Could Machida find more success with his approach?

Responses needn't be limited to Machida vs Jones. Rashad. Rampage. Silva. Anyone you feel is relevant works.

Machida??? lol is soooo overrated. Rua destroyed Machida like a *****, so much for great defense. You pressure and get into Machidas face and he doesnt know what to do. He always use to running away like a ***** that he is.

Even though I cant stand Silva, hes the only good threat to Jones.

Be nice if Lee Murray got out of prison, he would have a chance against both of them.

You mean the lightweight division, and it's not even close as far as I'm concerned.

Jones can easily neutralize that too. Machida is just more of an elusive hit and run fighter usually trying to set something up or find a hole that he can exploit. Jones' reach is going to take that out and he is going to pull out something Machida won't expect during the fight and well... Machida won't be going to far after that point in the fight.

I just say give Jones someone other Rashad to fight, bad enough Rashad is now talking trash about Jones and Greg Jackson so I expect him leave the fight with a face like Shogun's

It is a good strategy for him though. He isn't exactly a power hitter, more of a technical fighter and he uses his quickness to his advantage pretty well.

Don't even know where to begin with this post.

Which Silva? Anderson, Wanderlei, or Thiago? Because the latter two are LHW's and can therefore possibly contend. Anderson, on the other hand, is a MW and the current champeen.

Incidentally, there's a lot of rumors in the MMA community that Anderson is afraid to put some meat on his bones. They say he's hanging on to the MW title because he's complacent, and likely wouldn't do as well against bigger guys.

Wanderlei is a MW.

Yes Anderson but he'll probably never fight Jones.

Anderson has been talking about retiring in a couple years iirc.

Maybe after GSP dominates him? 😎
