You need a good defense.

But its hard to say one or the other so I'm going to say balanced. You want a good defense that can stop people some of the time, and help you out when you need to, but also have a good offense on where you can score when you want too, but not always score like crazy.

Basically like Washington, or Dallas or something like that.

The motto: "Defense wins championships" is a bit misleading.

Even super-dominant D's like the Ravens back when they won in 2000 had at least some offense. That year, for example, they were one of the top rushing teams in the league (not much passing though). But the defense overshadowed that, so it seemed like it was just defense that won them the title.

Just a sweet offense never wins (talk to Peyton Manning or Dan Marino if you need confirmation on this), so in that sense D is probably more important. But you really need both.

Even the great offensive teams of all-time had good defense. Favre had the best D in the league backing him up in '96...he didn't just will the Pack to a Super Bowl. Denver's D was solid for Elway's runs. I could site others as needed. But the D's get lost in the shuffle too often.

Soo true..

so if a team is going to have a deficiency in a certain area it is better for that particular weakness to be on the offensive side of the ball. teams find it easier to overcome offensive troubles rather than defensive difficulties. can anyone say 3005 bears or 2000 ravens or the last years steelers to some extent.

3005 Bears whoooooaaaa...do they have lasers and holograms and when they run the ball, they dont run but teleport?
What happens if they get injured? Do they clone the player like the 6th Day?

When you tackle somebody and miss, the coach presses the button and you explode in little gib bits...so they can teach you lesson, because they can clone the guy again...so in reality its not Shaun Alexander....its Shaun Alexander 19th.

(Im just kidding buzzy)

i know i would have done the same thing. ooooooooppppppps damn **** ups

i wish i would preread my posts before i post them. this is so embarassing. 😮

Yeah, chinks in the armor on offense are better than on defense (imo). But like I said, you need to be decent on both sides to win a championship.

And yeah, last year's Steelers are a good example. No one would've considered them Top 5 in total offense in the league, but it was good enough with the awesome D (#1 in run defense, and high in pass def. as well).

I'll go further.....they didnt give up turnovers.

That's what you want from the offense, to control clock and not give up turnovers.

Not every team needs the Colts passing attack. (But if they had an strong defence, oh man)

both wild cards coming out of the nfc east? are you sure?

It's happened before. In 1989 Cleveland won the AFC Central, and Houston and Pittsburgh were the two wild cards.

i do not disbelieve that it could happen it is just do you think that those teams are good enough to only lose games to one another. their schedules are pretty tough.

If they split within their division, that's only 3 losses.

Little late on this one, but for the sake of quickness, how about:

Minnesota

Outside of Brad Johnson, who actually might put up some decent numbers this year with a West Coast offense making its way to the ice ponds of the Land of 10,000 Lakes, they really don't have much at QB. I've always thought Chester Taylor was a great runner with the Ravens. Hell, he *****-slapped Jamal Lewis stat-wise during a few games where they each got at least 8 carries. If I had to pick a safety other than Polamalu to be in my own secondary, I wouldn't pick Ed Reed. I'd pick Darren Sharper.

All seems okay, and then you realize it's the Minnesota Vikings. Whether it be outrunning cops on the Interstate, bringing bootylicious strippers on a pontoon boat, or just the late-season collapse they've so poignantly trademarked..................................it's still the Minnesota Vikings.

Prediction: 7-9 (lose tiebreaker to Chicago for division title)

Interesting things about this little thing were doing

Seattle wins superbowl twice
Everybody chose NE, Carolina and Indy to win division
Indy was always bye 1
NFC East was the most different

Shaun Alexander overall leader for rushing, while AJ Hawk was the overall leader for ROY D.
Vernon Davis and Addai were co leaders, while Bush was only nominated once.

Everybody voted differently with MVP D, while Manning and Johnson were co leaders in the O.

In my opinion, Botankus has the trophy for predicting Buffalo to get second in thier division and Jacksonville to be last in division.

It will be interesting to see, and I think I got everybody down. If you want, I could always send the file to somebody if they ask.

Anybody else is free to join.
I think we should have something for the winner and the loser. Or atleast the loser.
