Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (PC, Xbox 360, PS3)

I've been playing WoW for a couple years now, but now the graphics are really getting to me, and the same environments etc. etc. Plus my realm happens to be one of the oldest in game so starting a new character sucks.

But anyway, does this game seem different enough to be worth buying? Like, how do the graphics and gameplay compare to WoW? Specifically is it just button mashing again basically or are there any other elements that come to play?

Oh and does anyone know how much this will be per month?

Roughly the same price per month

I find the gameplay pretty interesting, depending on what guild your in, it can be a pretty strategic game.

the UI is similar to wow but the gameplay is quite different

as for button mashing... idk...

depends on your class i suppose

if you have an upgraded computer the graphics are amazing

again, watch the podcasts at warhammeronline.com

and there are quite a few beta videos on youtube

Ok so I watched basically every single video that I could find on Warhammer and I seriously think that this could be better than World of Warcraft. I really like the whole tier 1 - 4 thing with the last part being an assault on the enemies city, and apparently from a lot of sites and beta testers, the public quests and tomb of knowledge are a nice addition.

And watching some of these beta videos were awesome... seeing like dozens of players around you at once instead of WoW's now seamingly dead servers. (again I'm on an old one)

It definetely has potential... anyone looking forward to this or definetely buying it at this point?

Im buying it today, cant wait.

Anyone heard of any trials for thsi game? I foudn this site by searching: http://www.warhammeronlinedemo.com/ but that didn't say much atm.

Didn't hear anything about trials

This is much more fun than WoW, one of the things about WoW that pissed me off was that all the critters/npcs in the wild were usually 30 levels above you, so you couldnt really venture off the path to explore without getting raped. I like how the quests arent boring as shit (ie WoW's 'go kill 30 deers, collect 20 hides, then find 12 feathers and Ill give you 50xp and a weapon you cant use yet'馃槈, and how the npcs respawn within 5mins so you dont have to wait that long to complete a quest. Played my first battlefield objective before, those things are awesome as well.

Got a question though, is there a way to fast travel across towns? I forgot a quest and I cbf going all the way back for it...

What are people Playing (race Class)?

Chaos - Chosen jam

Also another thing, is there an auction house in the game? The merchants sell jack all and when they do have stock, I've got better crap already. 馃槵

I remember being a bit confused about the whole RvR instead of normal PvP thing a while back when reading about the game. Can anyone who now play it try to explain it? Feel free to compare everything to WoW as I have played that a lot.

I think they mean instead of having one on one battles to boost your own stats, every battle you have contributes to your whole realm (or race/side). Its not about how much 'honor' or 'kills' you get, its about how much you can change the whole tide of battle. The ultimate goal is to get to Tier 4 so you can raid the enemy team fortress (this is no where as easy as it sounds), and to do that you have to work your way across Tier 1, 2 and 3 and try to control the main towns etc.

The game is meant to be based on a massive war being fought in 3 different locations, and everyone is a soldier fighting to win.

Ok some more info, I'll take a look at their website later for more in depth stuff like classes etc.

Can one faction talk to another faction? That wa sone of the things I hated most abotu WoW, not being able to talk to Humans etc.

Professions, do they seem worthwile in this game?

You said the quest weren't boring, care to give an example?

Not sure, I was too busy killing the other faction 馃槢

I didnt pay too much attention to professions, the few I saw were standard 'alchemy', 'skinning' that sort of thing. I dont think you'd use them very often.

Well theres a bunch of different types of quests, you have standard quests, public quests and battlefields. I dont know if they have instances or anything yet.

Standard quests are suited for the context of the game, so whereas in WoW you might go kill 10 deers, in this one you might go kill 10 soldiers. So its the same kind of kill-count quest, but it feels like you're taking part in war, not going off on some redundant quest to get a bit of xp. Also standard quests match your race, so for me being Chaos I had a few where I had to go hunt someone hiding in a cave, get his head, and stick it on a pole outside. Theres other small ones like setting houses on fire or stealing treasure chests etc.

Public quests you just come across, they're scattered about the map. You dont need a party or anything, it'll just say 'Public Quest Found' and you're basically playing. The first one I came across was a few sorcerers trying to summon a demon, and part 1 was to kill 25 militia men who spawned and tried to shoot them to stop them summoning it. When you kill them, part 2 is to collect souls or something from tombstones that appeared, while you are trying to do this, soldiers spawn and attack you. Part 3 a good guy mage appeared and messed up the summoning, and they summoned the wrong demon which killed them and killed the mage. Then it starts to attack you so everyone pitches in to kill it. At the end, it works out how much you contributed to the quest (how many men you killed, souls collected etc) and gives you bonuses and stuff, then it rolls a random number to see how you placed (I came first in score, but the roll made me last). This is so everyone has a fair chance at winning a prize, the top 6 players get a prize.

Battlefields are kinda like King of the Hill, you have a 'flag' to defend, and while its in your hold, it spawns npcs to help you fight. The other team attacks you and tries to get the flag for themselves. This is the PvP part since its mostly people vs people.

Beginning to looking forward buying it on tuesday

some of the single quest lines are a bit boring.. but every game has those

but pretty much all the public quests are really fun

Keep hearing great things about this game. Officialy more interested in this then WotLK now.

Im interested in both

So I have a few questions...

how buggy is the game? Should I buy it now or should I wait to due glitches, lag etc.?

Are the servers populated enough to fill the public quests? I've heard that players have not had enough people to be able to complete them... and I'm sure that would only get worse as time goes on.

and would you say the game is pvp (or RVR) based? I'm a PVE fan myself, for the most part anyway... so how big a role does that play in the game?

thanks

Most of the reviews have been praising it for how well its launched with regards to bugs/lag. I havent run into anything, just get it now and you can always update later.

Depends on your server I guess, I've had 30+ people in a public quest, and another one was 4 people. You could always grab a party and tackle one.

RvR will be the most fun, since thats what the game is designed for. There are servers for everyone if you dont want RvR though, pick what you want.

-As long as your pc can handle it.. its really not buggy at all.. I only have a few occasions where my character will punch instead of swing his sword XD but that fixes itself upon re-login... just lately they had an issue where people were spawning wher they died, and they hotfixed it immediately. so they seem very intent on keeping it a great experience... so I'm sure whether you get it now or later, it should be a pleasant experience

-Yeah, quite a few of the servers are high pop atm..

-Yes I would say its pvp based.. there is PvE content (such as questing, and public questing).. but I doubt to the point of having raid bosses... I could be wrong about that though, as I'm only level 6 XD
