I'm deciding between reading A Song of Ice and Fire by Martin or Malazan Book of the Fallen by Erikson in my spare time for the next year (which won't be much).

SoTaF will take you less time... Malazan will blow your mind as you try to figure out what the hell is going on and read through like 10 doorstoppers.

I haven't read a fantasy series in a long time, even though it is my favorite genre and has defined my childhood and adolescence lol.

I searched up the best fantasy series of all time and those two popped up at the top.

I'm edging towards Malazan because apparently it's Dragonball Z epic haha

Plus I like having complex plots with lots of characters. I also heard that too many people die in ASOIAF that it's hard to establish connections with the dramatis personae.

Then the Engineer Trilogy is definitely up your alley.

You have no excuse, Lucius and I both recommend it.

Is that how you convince your life partner to spoon with you?

Given that the tide of our current debate is inexorably shifting against him, I doubt Neph and I will be spooning anytime soon. ermm

If your life partner was indeed Neph, then this is the only situation in which I see you being the "man."

I don't mind the wife being the man of the house, knowing that at the end of the day I'm still spooning with the opposite sex, as opposed to......

Neph is woman enough for me! ahuh

Yea, until he asks you to bend over.

But I'm the man, remember? 😬

I'd go with The Wheel of Time over either two if you haven't yet read it; it's a [soon to be] 14 book epic that beats out The Lord of the Rings, The Dark Tower, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Sword of Truth, The Realm of the Elderlings and just about any Fantasy series out there.

Does Malazan pick up after the first book? I read it awhile back and didn't think the sereis would be worth my time... Plus it's so damn confusing.
