I am using an Xbox, which is a ***** since the Xbox controls are some of the worst mapped FPS controls I've ever seen. However I've been playing stealth games since Thief the Dark Project and IDK, HR's system is really frustrating. The Alarmed/Hostile dynamic is BS. I can tranq one guy and for a split second he will be hostile, but if I use a frag grenade on a group of guys, that will instakill them all and at most make nearby enemies alarmed. I shit you not, that has happened to me before.
I'm not sure what to say then. DX HR's stealth system is pretty intuitive and easy to master, IMO. I can see where using an Xbox controller would make it harder (always go PC if you can), but even then it's not exactly Super Ghouls n Ghosts hard or anything. I've played Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 on Xbox (both games had the same cover feature) as well as Splinter Cell on Playstation 2 and Xbox 360 respectively. None of them posed much of a handling problem beyond the first twenty minutes tops. With SC, I was pretty much stealthing through the entire first few levels without serious concern.
I mean, fooling the AI in this game is almost criminally easy. I've seen situations where you pick up a vending machine near a Baller who gets suspicious, and then you drop it between the two of you and suddenly you're invisible. Or situations where I've literally walked parallel to guards without cover and then surprise Q'd them into submission. If you get the Cones of Vision aug, you don't even have to pay much attention to the main screen. Just stay crouched, gauge the distance between guards and take down, take down, take down (That's Q, Q, Q, for those with PC versions).
This game is also a hell of a lot more forgiving then say, MGS original, which featured more surveillance cameras than Goldeneye. The parts where cameras are around, they can easily be bypassed (You can literally hug the wall under them comfortably) or just shut off by security computers.
Really, I don't know how far you are at this point, but if you find the stealth beyond frustrating and managable by the time you get to Heng Sha, you're going to really hate Heng Sha, the Return, and Singapore.
Lastly, if you can't takedown/tranq a bunch of guys, lead one around with a box throw. The guards always go where they last saw the box hit/door open, etc. Just cover outside of their field of vision and Q the shit out of them. Pick back up box, rinse repeat. You can clear out hallways in a few short minutes.
Just raise your hand if you have any more questions.
