Apparantly Dead Island is pretty crap.

I still want to buy Brotherhood, but I haven't had the funds.
Brotherhood was amazing for a semi expansion.

Rage looks good, The Old Republic's really let me down, the rest seem gay as hell. And I'm not talking about quirky, endearing gay like me and Nephthys, but put-it-in-ze-butt-all-night-long kinda gay.

The latter part really makes me wonder if you're overcompensating, but really... what do you consider a "good game"? Besides ME3, obviously.

Two of my roommates are in love with it, but I've never found the appeal in zombies.

Games like ME3. I'm not a super-duper fan of the fantasy/medieval setting. I like RPGs and I like action games, so those that combine such elements appeal to me.

I think you need to expand the definition of what you believe to be acceptable RPGs and action games then, I suppose. Most wRPG fans would argue that Oblivion and Morrowind, for all their faults, are good games. As for action, all games have some form of action. Unless you mean finger-twitching shallow games like CoD: Everything Ever Released since '09 or Halo Something or Other, or Gears of Grey and Brown Graphics X.

nah

I dislike most of those games.

I didn't like morrowind.

Alright, since you've exposed a part of yourself (without Neph's help this time), I have to have a good answer out of you. I'm getting the impression of the extreme casual gamer who only finds appeal in games which arguably everyone with a pulse would find epic. What else marks your high points in gaming choices?

What aspect?

Quality.

Sounds like you'd enjoy the recent Fallout games. RPG shooters, just like Mass Effect.

Fallout is just a shitty version of Oblivion... IMO.

But alot more stat-based. And the sandbox can ruin the experience for some. For my part, I loved the concept and atmosphere, but ultimately the main story arc was less than impressive, and the expansion are more for fluff than to expand on that.

The Mass Effect series are easily my favorite games evar. Selling points for me: sci-fi setting, highly extensive storyline, excellent and diverse characterization, stellar writing, pacing, and dialogue, high quality graphics, and (particularly in the first game with planet exploration) a truly epic feel to it.

Other games I've liked/loved:

Halo
Halo 2
Halo: Reach
Gears of War
Gears of War 2
Brute Force
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2
Star Wars: Battlefront
Star Wars: Battlefront 2
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Star Wars: Jedi Knight II
Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
Fable

That's it off the top of my head.

Fallout: New Vagas is far superior to Oblivion.

Good points and I can't really disagree with you on that other than to say that New Vagas is much better in those aspects. Much stronger storyline. In fact, screw Fallout 3, just get New Vagas. Its soooo much better.

OMG I own these. Highfive!

Me and my bro loved those games. Ah, memories......

I can totally agree with this.

Haha, I was right!

Brute Force

Really, this surprised me. I barely know anyone who plays Brute Force anymore. I loved this game, especially the multiplayer once you unlock the Shrikes. Brute Force should have really taken off.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2

You might like Daggerdale then, which has just recently come out. It's also dirt-cheap too.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2
Star Wars: Battlefront
Star Wars: Battlefront 2
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Star Wars: Jedi Knight II
Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Givens.

Fable

That's it off the top of my head.

Fable, for me, was a huge disappointment. I was one of the saps who preordered it. My big problem was that for a game which was hyped for years and years (Project EGO, etc.), it basically was a lackluster "action-RPG" with very limited character interaction, a lot of linear maps and "if you blow it, restart" quests that bordered on ludicrous. Nevermind that I literally beat it within 16 hours. And that's having done everything, that's not even just a quick main storyline run.

I'm not saying you're wrong for appreciating Fable, as you may not have had the high expectations I had since I followed it very very closely all along, but I personally thought Fable could have been much better. Or at least longer. It remains to this day one of only two games I've willingly gave away.

It's better by far than either KotOR, which is impressive. Karpyshyn might be a lackluster novelist in the Star Wars mythos, but he definitely confirmed in Mass Effect the strengths he demonstrated in the KotOR games. They're not perfect, but I've never played a game that manages to hit all those high points. You have tons of options, but it's not so open as to be boring. The pacing is utterly phenomenal and in addition to high marks in all the writing and creative aspects, it truly feels like you're a galactic explorer.

SM
Haha, I was right!

Much of the appeal from these games actually does stem from their entertaining stories.

Agreed. I thought it would have been the next Halo.

Never heard of it.

Understandable.

I got an hour into New Vegas and quit... Couldn't stand it (I couldn't stand 3 either but forced myself to play through it).

I loved Fable. Fable 2 not so much.
