The Battle Bar, Our Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy

Geddy's voice mellows with age. He's less of a banshee after the mid 80s.

The 80s seem like everyone was afraid of looking like they worked hard, and the music of that era seems like it's very carefully cultivating an atmosphere of carelessness. Big Generator in particular seems restrained, held back.

I just hate the 80s.

Rush sounds great live, but via recording, Geddy's voice is prone to jumping off key intermittently. But he was never renown for his vocal abilities anyway.

That's a misconception, I think. The '80s saw very well-crafted music and stellar musicians, Journey and Toto being among the forefront.

Oh, I don't want to say that the music is sloppy. The musicianship itself is still stellar. I think they just tried to put out an attitude of boredom or apathy, one that doesn't mesh with Yes's more bombastic (epic? intricate?) sound.

Have you watched the James Spader Office episode yet?

Spader is the Office. It is him.

Bombastic? Epic? Stellar musicianship?

Plz see Journey's Escape or Eclipse albums plz.

I saw last season's finale. He plays a deliciously twisted man in the form of Mr. Robert California.

Please. Journey is top-40s pop compared with Yes.

Neal Schon was a child prodigy; and received offers at age 15 to join Santana and Derek & the Dominoes as a full time guitarist. Steve Smith is recognized as one of the most technically skilled drummers of the era; Steve Perry was a countertenor singer capable with a nearly unparalleled range.

Do not presume to punish Journey for being more commercially, culturally, and financially successful than Yes.

Steve Howe was the recipient of "best overall guitarist"* several times over, and shares company only with Steve Morse and Eric Johnson (yes that Eric Johnson) in musicians inducted to the Gallery of Greats to receive that award.

I'm not going to hate on Journey, because I have a deep respect for all things Santana, but Yes has been around longer, doing what they do better. Have you heard a Glee cover of a Yes song?😖hifty:

I'll take the opinions of Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana over readers of Guitar Player magazine. 131

Of course they do what they do better than Journey would. Why would Journey want to do what Yes does? That would require them to become commercially and culturally less significant. sneer

This sounds awfully similar to the grudge-induced moans of emo and goth kids in high school about those more popular and successful than they were. haermm

(I think I've seen Johnson in concert? That's gonna be my excuse.)

Wait, so the fact that a mediocre autotuned version of a sub-par song is the most recognizable face of your favorite band makes me jealous?

As babyface Hank would say,
Noooo...

This basically boils down to:
Yes does things with a soundscape that Journey can't hope to touch.

Journey does things with a catchy beat and coherent lyrics that Yes can't.

(Can we start talking about Rush, as well? I Google has lots of quotes about their drummer.

Neil Peart is one of the most prolific and accomplished drummers alive; you'll get no argument from me there.

Wow, Square Enix is really looking far into the future with their sneak previews of FF XXVII in Deus Ex: HR

The final confrontation with Eliza Cassan is simply stunning.

This place isn't as fun as it used to be. I think it's because I'm trying to be too nice.

Blade Runner still sucks. Best sci-fi films ever my ass.

Never saw it.

I just came across a game breaking bug. I can't upload the virus to scramble the scientists GLPs because the contextual activation button refuses to work.

Boring as watching paint dry. Subpar script, story, dialogue, and mediocre acting at best--even by Ford and Hauer.
