What abut the time Morinth enslaved an entire villiage and made them sacrifice young asari to her?
Well if that was a cultural norm, then who are you to judge? Set aside your horrendous British ethnocentrism for five minutes and consider the beliefs and values of other civilized groups, will you? uhuh

Yes and Samara killed them all. Was it necessary that Samara kill them all or was it because her code told her to? ? No idea. The details of the event aren't clear enough, but that would certainly count against the net gain in lives saved if siding with Morinth.

And you can't do the same to Samara because... ?
I didn't actually consider that. At the time I picked Morinth because I had severe doubts Bioware would let you kill Samara unless it involved Shepard taking some horrific closed fist/dark sider option. If there was all possible choices, then if I was actually Shepard I would have sided with Samara, killed Morinth and then killed Samara once done with her. Actually, in this case, the order of events is irrelevant, because the outcomes are equivalent.

I believe it was because they were mindslaves and trying to kill her. Also a village of Asari = a village of Biotics. Holding back would be dumb. She wouldn't have had to have killed them if Morinth wasn't such a crazy psychopath in the first place.
Excellect! Everybody dies, no-one wins!

Because of the Whore's frequent recitation of the phrase 'net gain' to refer to the balance of human live, I shall henceforth refer to him (in addition to the aforementioned Whore) by the sobriquet "the Economist of Ethics" or, to a lesser (but catchier) extent, "the Ethical Economist."
I prefer "ethical calculus" in whatever verbized/nounified form you so choose.

There's no alliteration, though, which makes it beautiful. And while the Whore is undoubtedly a licentious, sinister machine intelligence in disguise, I'd prefer not to call him an Ethical Calculator.

I did mention that this put the net gain in doubt.

Shepard wins by disposing of a rule bound fanatic and a psychopathic murderer, increasing the net wellness of the galaxy. He's even able to use one of the two to help him fight off an apocalyptic threat (vastly increasing the net wellness of the galaxy.) I can't really think of a better outcome.
Sadly, Bioware doesn't give you the option.
That's just clumsy.
The most pithy thing you're going to get, I think, is ethical economist. just make sure to use a lot of derision and maybe reference Wall Street or Enron every other sentence.
(Your problem is that "ethical" is usually a positively connoted word. See phraseology for denouncing medical experiments: "unethical"...)

What feels good and wholesome doesn't always correlate to what brings about the best result. Intuition and emotion being remarkably bad at the aforementioned.
