In addition to what has been posted above: Magneto is the overall most compelling and multi-dimensional villain from the Marvel and DC rogues gallery that has been introduced to the big screen in the past decade. And the most badass. I say, without fear or regret, that Magneto could take movie!Galactus himself with his ability to manipulate magnetismbadassery.

I dnt like the way they've made him too evil in the movies. In the comics there was always hope for him, and he was at times a hero (but an anti-hero like the Punisher)..

But First Class has certainly given the movie version much more depth and yes badassery.

It's probably the most unrefined of all the storytelling mediums but there are some genuinely good reads to be found within it; the works of Alan Moore and Frank Miller are all great and The Sandman by Neil Gaiman just about stands among some of the finest pieces of fantasy fiction ever written.

I've read neither. The overwhelming majority of comics and graphic novels that I'm exposed to fail to resonate with me.

Funny enough, even though he seemed content to wipe out the entire human species in X2, I've never considered Magneto out and out evil. I wonder what that says about me. 😐

He's convinced you with the survival of the fittest argument, and you've just assumed you're a homo-superior (is that what he calls it? cant remember, but if it is its funny coming from Mckellen)

I'm not sure why I never considered Magneto to be evil, but now I need to do some serious soul-searching so as to ensure that I am not, in fact, a sociopath of sinister proportions.

Perhaps it's because his initial plan was to make mutants out of them?

A homosexual sociopath. That's unusual.

Magneto didn't seem gay, though the same could be said for Dumbledore....

Stick with the Vertigo Imprint, the vast majority of DC and Marvel is pure shit. Stuff like Vertigo is where the actual good stuff is. The rest is just for pathetic simians eager for shit stories to amuse their pathetic shit brains.

You, my friend, have corrupted me with your darkness as it is.

You will know the awesomeness of Lucifer, Y The Last Man, The Preacher, Hellblazer, and Sandman.

Do you appreciate the subtext of this as much as I do?

I did cross my secular heathen mind.

not sure if serious

Anyway, I'm always a bit leery of jumping on an elitist bandwagon like the Mutant Brotherhood because it appeals to the self-serving idea that you qualify in the top tier of society.

For example, in Ender's Game, there is a lot of temptation to believe that I'd be tagged with the monitor and called away to be the savior of the human race ([/narcissism]) when it's much more likely (for anyone choosing sides) to find yourself on the front lines.

This is why I refuse to endorse anarchy; it's great for the guy with the biggest guns, but you won't be that guy.

Thus: Magneto's goals always seemed selfish and a bit callous. The scene in X3 where the mother locks the car doors at him while on the bridge is a fantastic reminder of the people caught in the crossfire.

Well that's just the problem with comics in general. I don't know how you people like 'em at all.

This is why you should only read ze graphic novels. They're all relatively self-contained (some completely so) in a manner that allows them to serve their own logic. All-Star Superman Vol.1/2 is spectacular, and there are heeeaaaps of terrific Batman stories that either adequately address your gripe or avoid it altogether: The Dark Knight Returns, Year One, Black Mirror, RIP, and Batman & Robin are the cream of the crop, but there are plenty of other great ones. I never read Final Crisis or finished Return of Bruce Wayne - both of which tie into RIP - but both paint Wayne in a supremely badass light.

Also, the current rebooted Batman is brilliant if you ignore Bruce's babyface. So is Wonder Woman, and she has no babyface problems.

edit: The Flash, Swamp Thing, and Animal Man. Specifically the latter two. I haven't read any of the previous Swamp Thing stuff, but I know Alan Moore worked on it and therefore trust that it is [notable].

Charming.

I am writing and I am pleased with it and I am going to post it at ROK for your thorough evaluation and brutal shredding, my friends.

watchu writin 'bout?

My revamped saga. I'm pretty damn happy with it, this constitutes a prologue. Would you mind being a beta/editor/critic?

surely. how long is it?

Right now it's 3,391 words. I'm coming close to a brief stopping point, though the prologue isn't close to being done.

Do you have access to ROK?

Google, yah.

edit: If you mean my account, I'm not sure about the password but I'll try it out when I post.
