Indeed, but when combined with the fact that the book's actual timeline (beginning with the founding of the Jedi order and concluding with the Cold War) ends during the events of the game and does not even conclude the storyline (it literally ends after the present arc, with Malgus dead), there's no reason to believe the answer is conclusive.
BTW, does it say that Malgus is actually dead? What does it say about Vitiates fate specifically? Does it illuminate if the Knight fought him or his Voice?

I believe, yes. {I was only at Barnes & Noble for 30 minutes and it was a 400 page book. Difficult as it is to fathom, even a mancreaturetitan such as myself has limitations.}

All references to the Knight's battle with Vitiate refers to him as the Sith Emperor.
The idea that history's most powerful Sith Master, a godlike avatar of the dark side, whose brilliance and genius is as peerless as the potency of the dark energy coiled within his ancient body, is felled in single combat within the confines of his citadel on a dark side nexus by an exhausted Jedi Knight whose sole accolade is being "one of the strongest padawans in generations"... is a source of amusement for me.
I'm kind of annoyed that I haven't even spoken to Visas yet- literally not a single word, and Kreia is already grilling me about wanting to **** her.
It's off-putting how quickly everyone else on the ship seems to hold me on a pedestal, with that as an example. I preferred my circumstances in KOTOR1, where I was primarily just "one of the guys" up until being revealed as Revan.
That being said, the amount of depth each on your NPC allies has is pretty interesting, if not somewhat tedious due to all the abstract/philosophical humdrum the game seems to make you go through at every turn. It would be nice to talk to someone and get a window into their insight without getting into an argument with them about whatever, only for them to love me unconditionally anyway.
