The war and the citizenry, the other Jedi, the victims and casualties, the consequences and destruction---it's suggested all that exists but they only ever focus on a couple of people and prop them up as super important with no real explanation as to why (other than fan familiarity).

It's kind of like the Galaxy of Fear books, where the no-nevermind protagonists keep meeting all the major players from the films, for no other reason that fan familiarity. It really makes a galaxy-sized world feel very small and inconsequential.
