I don't see him whooping Maul. I see him holding off Maul while whooping Opress. In fact I see Maul whooping Kenobi at the end.
It was an Opress-Fail and Kenobi being awesome experience. Maul didn't come out of it looking particularly good or bad. Although he displayed superior force powers to Kenobi multiple times in that episode.

Yeah that was more Viszla being a bad ass.
I do hope Maul does kick some ass before they kill him off. He really needs some victories at this stage otherwise he does come across as a bit of a joke.

Yeah, Maul sucked big time on that fight. Although, recent events [aka TOR] have the Voidhound and the Champion whooping Jedi/Sith ass multiple times throughout the game, so it doesn't surprise me anymore that Vizsla was able to make it a close one against Maul. Maybe if I'd never played the game and this was the first time I saw a Sith as powerful as Maul struggle against a Mando I'd be all like:

Medstar Duology notes wisely that even a padawan such as Barriss Offee could flatten a deadly non-Force using fighter like Phow Ji with a TK pimpslap, because there is no defense against it. But she engages in a "fair" battle and loses horribly, because Jedi morality.
I can assume that Maul didn't go all out on Vizsla because it would either piss the Mandos off and ruin his bid for power or it just wouldn't be fun. I find the idea that he was just outclassed to be a stretch.
Regarding TOR fights, those boggle my mind. I realize Bioware is attempting to prevent "Force users pwn all" stereotypes and give incentive for people to play characters that are supposed to be the top tier non-Force using people of all time (Like Jango), but at some point a Force user is deliberately not TKing his opponent. From a combative standpoint, this sounds like stupidity, especially if the fighter is Sith.
However, I concede that people routinely do stuff the hard way for other reasons. Kun didn't attempt to blast Ulic but fought him mano-e-mano. Same with Vodo. He didn't even waste his time with Syvar though, chucking her aside like rubbish. Then you have Obi-Wan trying to subdue Jango, and Mace Windu not bothering to use TK because he could kill Jango easily enough without it.
In a hypothetical versus match though, PIS is considered invalid, and therefore someone as proficient as Maul should ideally apply the TK like Gideon applies his jam.

Well for whatever reason he didn't use any TK against Vizsla. Probably for the honorable combat shit.
But Maul's brother/apprentice was Force Choking Death Watch warriors with ease just minutes and even seconds earlier. They were not even able to put up a fight against Opress.
It's really quite sad, but whenever I come in here, I'm starting to recognize less and less of the names in the Versus threads, both of characters and some of the users here. So much for free time...

I'm studying International Security and the Middle East is all really interesting to me, on a cultural and political level. I picked up some Farsi last year through online classes at my university as well. I'm planning on going to Jordan next summer.

Wow. I had no idea you were into all this. If you pick up Farsi well enough, you can land some pretty good jobs too, either as translator or some kind of lower level ambassador style job. Make sure you get any declarations/medical alerts officially translated before you go. For example, there was a guy who had metal shards in his wrist from reconstruction and failed to get his card officially translated. Cue hilarity at the metal detector upon landing.
Also, I would heavily recommend not picking anyone from SWVF to moderate this place, because the regulars would have a difficult time extracting themselves from the debates to do a job that requires some degree of neutrality.
I've only recently begun to get more active about my interests. I've finally hit that 'one year of college left!' point so I need to be able to express my thoughts outside of a college lecture hall.
I want to continue with my Persian studies but the opportunity has eluded me. I AM finished with a minor in German, however. Ich kann Deutsch ein bißchen and all that good stuff. And I'm going to learn Arabic next summer while abroad (because when else can you learn Arabic in a country that speaks it?).
