It really is. That game was way worse than something like Fable, let alone the likes of Dragon Age and KotOR. Only reason I got it was because Xbox had shit all for games.

You talking about Baldur's Gate or Mass Effect?

Both are amazing games. Better than Fable. ME created an incredible universe, had good characters and gameplay and an interesting storyline. You really need to play BG 2 for the best of the genre, but BG 1 was still a good game.

Dragon Age was garbage. 😐

But then that maybe because I'm a big fantasy fan so I can see how derivate the game truly is.

Meh, the writing is Bioware on top form, the world is great though yeah its a bit staple, I really enjoyed the old style gameplay and the characters were extremely charming and likeable.

I'll admit, I enjoyed the characters but that's really the only thing I though was good. I wasn't a fan of the gameplay in either game and the plot in the first game was just so dull.

The second game I thought had an interesting plot but there were far to many other problems with it for me to enjoy the game.

Majority of fantasy lit. is derivative imo.

BG. Not sure what you saw in it to be honest, it's been a while since I played it but it was incredibly mediocre.

True. But there are plenty of books that also push the genre forward.

Anyway, my problem with Dragon Age isn't merely because it was derivative (I just mentioned that because I've seen many people claim it was unique and fresh) but because I wasn't invested into it. I found the world boring for some reason.

I didn't like it upon first play-thru, but later grew to like it. The novelty of a 'dark, gritty fantasy realm' wasn't as novel to me as it was to some, and the combat was very boring.

What was wrong about DA's plot? I thought it was cool.

Shadows of Amn is much better in every way. I guess you just couldn't get through BG1's age.

Honestly, I don't even really remember the plot of Dragon Age aside from the fact that there was some dragon who has some followers called the Blight and you had to gather an army to stop him... That's how completely apathetic I was about the plot.

The ME series is one of the best RPG series ever IMO. The whole universe they created, which managed to look realistic and believable yet unique, original and distinguished, along with a fantastic story, great character depth overall and very fun gameplay makes those three games really enjoyable to play. It's one of the few series where you really connect and sympathize with its characters. I almost cried when

Spoiler:
Mordin died
. When ME3 came out I was almost as excited as when I first played KOTOR II; it was easily the game I expected the most since ME2 was released.

DA was pretty good, but DA2 sucked ballz. I really hope DA3 is as good as its hype. I've never played BG, and KOTOR and KOTOR II are both amazing.

Wow.

Well.... I liked it. 😬

I really liked all except one of the Origins. I liked Lohgain's whole story and his complex betrayal. I enjoyed the story of each of the places you go to, especially the Dwarven stuff. And I like Morrigans big plot twist at the end.

KotOR is the height of the SF RPG and Dragon Age the fantasy RPG. Best overall story driven game however is easily MGS series imo.

Thats a funny way to spell Persona.

Mass Effect is far superior to KotOR.

Nah KotOR's better in every way, especially 2. Far more memorable main character, party members, villains, and setting (talking specifically what the games added to established SW lore, such as the infinite empire). Plot of 2 blows the Mass Effect plot out of the water. Plus it has the extra edge of the SW brand. And imo the gameplay in ME1 was a real mess.

Only played Witcher 1 and DA was far superior.

It really isn't fair to compare Kotor 2 to Mass Effect. Of course Bioware can't compete with Obsidian in terms of writing.

As much as I've always (and probably always will) love Star Wars, I agree. M.E. has depth and variety to it's story that both the first and second KotOR games don't really come close to.

I think KotOR 2 is the closest, really. I find the story much greater than the first KotOR. However, with the M.E. series, it seems like Bioware evolved in terms of storytelling from games like KotOR.

Also, while Obsidian has some fantastic writing chops, they aren't better than Bioware.

KotOR 1's better as well.
