Seems kind of nonsensical for the Republic to secretly fund a resistance and not just have their own army defending the Galaxy. They should have given a good reason for that.

It's mentioned in the film that the Republic Fleet is destroyed by SK base.

Spoiler:
mentioned Snoke like she knew him? Wonder if maybe he was also a senior student to Ben/Kylo, maybe even a master to him.

Does anything in the novel mention this?

I've only skimped it but from what I saw, nope.

And the Republic isn't fighting the First Order... why?

Hey these faux-Imperials are like, being evil and shit, and have a dude with a red lightsaber on their side.

Meh, it's probably nothing.

It may be that Leia is holding them back because Ren's her son? She wouldn't to hurt him or anyone to be hurt by him.

seems logical, in a parent mindset, i guess?

They signed a peace treaty, I think.

I missed that when was that mentioned? Was it destroyed before the film or when Starkiller Base blew up that System?

In any case the "Resistance" should be what's left of the Republic's fleet. Because the Republic was still the Governing body in this movie.

Eh its really just kind of a copy of what happened in SWTOR. It seems like the Empire and the Republic are in a sort of cold war, with the Republic funding the resistance.

Too much thinking and not enough facts on it IMO.

Whatever their reason for it, it's clearly a Plot device to emulate the state of affairs in ANH.

Its stated in the book.

I believe that was mentioned in the film as well. But I could be mistaken.

When Starkiller blew up the system.

Wow I just realized they missed out big time by not making TRAITOR Phasma.

Yeah, I don't get why they didn't do that it's so obvious.... 😬

Like Gwendoline Christie has swordsmanship experience and everything and instead they got some nameless character to do it. 😬

Mmm I said as much earlier, tbh they missed out big time concerning Phasma in general.

@Darth Thor: After the Battle of Endor, the New Republic reached an uneasy peace with the remnants of the Galactic Empire. Believing the Empire was no longer a threat, the New Republic reduced its military capabilities, despite Leia’s warning that the Imperial remnants could not be trusted. When her concerns were dismissed as paranoid warmongering, Leia formed the Resistance, a secret military force that keeps watch on the restive First Order. - Leia Organa's SW.com Databank

Wow, how difficult would it have been to explain that in the film. 😐

Ikr lol

I can finally post here again. :3

Also sounds so retarded. That the New Republic decided to trust the Remnants of the Galactic Empire and reduce their own Military to virtually nothing, after everything that happened. Whilst surprise surprise, the First Order were growing their own army.

Pretty sure we kept making weapons after WWII, and we forced the Japanese to stop making weapons.

Like I said just a lame excuse to mirror the Rebellion/Empire era.

It may sound retarded, but it sounds exactly like something the Republic, especially in Legends, would do.

Edit.

Wait... how did Ush stop the Dave?
