You mean the apex of human achievements and the emergence of the greatest industrial power in the history of mankind? Yea, totally sucked. Now we have philosophy majors, coffee houses, twitter, social networks, and shitty music.

what? Since when do I debate? I'm not here to help you. And I'm not even the one who compared me to Autokrat's parents.
You said that you were like his parents and then told a story about how parents only argue and try to make you see 'teh light' to save you. What else could you have meant?

They didn't have the internets though. How can any decade be complete without lolcats?

We are like his parents though.I talked to a guy the other day who hated his parents because they were always talking to him about being a christian, and they didn't accept his new-found religion (Budhism) He said they didn't really love him, because they couldn't accept him for who he was.
Then I pointed out to him, that although, HE didn't believe that Christianity was correct, THEY did, and they truly believed that if he wasn't a Christian, he was going to burn in hell. All they were doing by bringing it up over and over was trying to save him from something they truly believed was going to harm him.
Even if they are wrong, their actions, since they truly believed they were correct, definitly were actions of someone who cared about him.
How much easier would it be to drop it, and just be friends with him? They were intentionally putting their relationshipwith him, which they valued, at risk, because they were so concerned for his well-being.
He then did come to understand that their LOVE for him wasn't diminished, even if they didn't see things his way.
Interesting talk.
I do hope that the underlying implication in this cute little tale isn't supposed to be some kind of commentary on my relationship with my parents. If it is, it is woefully inaccurate.
I have no doubt my parents love me; however, parental love does not presuppose acceptance or tolerance. I care nothing about their amusing attempts to reconvert me back into their primitive beliefs when we are separated by hundreds of miles. However, living with them again in the summer is going to be a source of constant irritation.

LOL@Primitive beliefs. Because belief in a higher power is primitive!! Seriously Veneficus, sometimes I wonder if you bother thinking before typing. I hope your parents spanked you when you were little.
Of course they did. My parents kept a yard long rod inscribed with that one verse about sparing the rod, spoil the child. The shitholes would hang it in the living room.
No, you missed the point because Colbert is more conservative while Stewart is liberal, so I was covering my ass by being objective.
Do you know what I am saying?

These beliefs are two thousand years old, and many of them date back as far as six or seven thousand years... so yes. They are "primitive."

So would you say, then, that as a result of the punishment you have ended up a damaged adult?
I have no idea since I obviously can't go back and experience the first twelve years of my life without getting beaten with a stick over the stupid shit that little kids do.
However I don't see how I would have turned out worse if they hadn't.
The home schooling certainly damaged me. You can't even imagine what my first year in HS was like.

See, Colbert is making fun of real Republicans with his show. Nothing he says is in earnest. So every notch he goes along the "Republicometer" is really a notch for the "Democratometer."Do you know what I am saying?
Well...These beliefs are two thousand years old, and many of them date back as far as six or seven thousand years... so yes. They are "primitive."
The way he said it implied that they have no use for this day and age.

No. Colbert is a Conservative, Steward is a liberal. Stewart makes fun of mostly conservatives while Colbert who makes fun of both sides, makes fun of mostly liberals. So again, no.The way he said it implied that they have no use for this day and age.
Are you really that dense? Have you seen the show? The Colbert Report is anything but a Republican production.
There are times where he can't maintain the persona and just starts laughing. I would be willing to stake the (hypothetical) soul of my firstborn son (again, assuming he isn't a ginger) on the issue.

Yea, I've seen the show. And he makes fun of Democrats/Liberals a hell of a lot more than Conservatives. Of course, the whole purpose of his show is to make fun of both parties, but he's a conservative while Stewart is a Liberal. I think you're STILL not understanding what I'm saying.
