England always underperforms in the world cup. The US wouldn't replicate their initial result had they played again.

I don't even know if I would call it under performing but more so that they seem to completely lack any cohesive ability whatsoever. Individually their players are great but they don't seem to be able to play an effective passing game whatsoever. Both The USA and Algeria, while not possessing players anywhere near as good, out performed England quite easily when it came to playing as a team.

Story of England. The USA advances with a win against Algeria.

The one where nothing happened for 90 minutes (I am of course talking of English football).

Wasn't I as well? I meant the US/England and US/Slovenia matches, respectively.

I meant the England v whatever match that just occured.

oh i c

Slovenia...

Damnit, this world cup is one of the worst ever, so many bad and boring matches, not too mention the dumb vuvuzela which is giving me headaches. All of the great teams are sucking except for maybe Argentina, Brazil and Holland (even though they aren't playing great, at all).

I've watched since 94 and I agree. No real skill or sense of urgency. Every world cup there is more and more flopping. The second half of the US game was the most exciting of the tournament. One thing I like is that mediocre teams are playing better than they should.

Yep, almost every European team isn't playing their best. People say it's because the soccer balls aren't that good, but for the world's best players this shouldn't be too much of a problem. I just hope it gets waaay better in the quarter finals.

Ghana may very well be as bad as south Africa.

so is the US going to advance? I don't follow soccer, how does this work? England was the number 1 seed, right? so why was the US and England in the same division?

Divisions are randomized. If the US beat Algeria, they advance.

nice, did England lose to somebody else then?

No, tied twice and underachieving as usual.

Sure, but Ghana's leading their Group.

Also, I just heard about Bol. 🙁 Uncool. Now I'm worried about Dikembe Mutombo. lol

Ghana is awful though and I doubt they'll make it out of the group stage. Cameroon was even worse today and south Africa is garbage. Its incredible that the three worst teams in the World Cup are from Africa.

I'm not clear on how so many African teams qualified in the first place, especially when they all suck. I can understand Ivory Coast's struggles because their star striker is injured, but the rest, wtf. Cameroon was pathetic today - they couldn't finish anything and they had like ten opportunities to do so.

Every African nation plays the same, like a bunch of uncontrolled, undisciplined teenagers. Ivory coast has been the best African nation and that's even without Drogba at full strength. We will Dee what they're made of tomorrow when they face the might of Brazil.
